Low-Key Wiccan Wedding Ceremony Script

SET UP

• Before guests arrive: 
• Your wedding officiant will cast a circle around the ceremony space. Place candles, herbs, flowers, and crystals in the four corners (to honor the four directions / elemental directions). To keep things ‘low key’, place crystals at the base of a vase and top with flowers. Beautiful, decorative, magical! 
• A small Wiccan wedding altar should be arranged at the front of the ceremony space, close to where the couple and wedding officiant will stand. Place spiritual items on the altar, such as stones, crystals, herbs, flowers, offerings, and runes. You will also arrange two taper candles and a larger Unity Candle on the table, beside your wedding rings and handfasting cord. Choose meaningful colors for your candles (color magic / candle magic) and braid your own handfasting cord for added magic.

Beloved friends and family, we’re here today to celebrate the union of (PARTNER A) and (PARTNER B). A wedding is such a wonderful occasion, filled with hopes and dreams for the seasons ahead! Each of you has played an important role in (PARTNER A) and (PARTNER B)’s lives, and we are overjoyed to share this moment with you. 

OFFICIANT TO THE COUPLE

The two of you are separate individuals, each with your own memories and goals.Today, you choose to walk one path together. Each shared decision, each conversation, each new adventure, and each challenge met together, will deepen your bond. It is your kindness, compassion, sharing, and honesty that will light your path through marriage. Your journey will also require patience, laughter, courage, and forgiveness. 

Remember that you don’t walk alone. All of us here support you in this journey. We lift you up in our hearts! For marriage is more than just two people coming together – it’s the joining of two communities. (So come to us for advice, let us cat sit for you, make you dinners, and go out dancing with you.) Your joy is our joy, and we love you!  

Nurture your partnership daily – with each small decision, each loving word and action, each thoughtful pause, and each playful embrace. Moment to moment, season to season, and year to year, the love you nurture will carry you far. 

STATEMENT OF INTENT TO MARRY (THE ‘I DO’S)

PAGAN CANDLE LIGHTING WEDDING TRADITION

• SET UP: A SMALL ALTAR SHOULD BE PLACED NEARBY BEFORE THE CEREMONY BEGINS. THIS ALTAR WILL CONTAIN ANY SPIRITUAL ITEMS THE COUPLE WISHES, AS WELL AS THE UNITY CANDLE, THE WEDDING RINGS, AND A HANDFASTING CORD. 
• THE OFFICIANT WILL TURN TOWARD THE ALTAR WHEN IT’S TIME TO BEGIN THE CANDLE LIGHTING AND RING EXCHANGE, AND THE COUPLE WILL STEP FORWARD)

As a symbol of the countless ways life grows brighter when two souls come together, (PARTNER A) and (PARTNER B) will now light the Unity Candle. Each of you brings something special to this marriage - your own bright flame. Never forget that it’s your unique qualities that make this union strong. You are better together. Please lift your candles, and let your love light the way!

• THE COUPLE LIFT THE TAPER CANDLES AND LIGHT THE UNITY CANDLE

EXCHANGE OF RINGS & HANDFASTING CEREMONY

OFFICIANT

And now for the rings! (PARTNER A) and (PARTNER B), please exchange rings and join hands. 

• THE COUPLE TAKES THE WEDDING RINGS FROM THE ALTAR, EXCHANGES RINGS, AND JOINS HANDS. IF IT’S PREFERRED, THE OFFICIANT MAY HAND EACH PARTNER A RING TO HELP THE EXCHANGE GO SMOOTHLY.

As a final symbolic gesture, (PARTNER A) and (PARTNER B) have chosen to share a handfasting ceremony with us. When they said they were ready to ‘tie the knot,’ they meant it! This timeless ritual has been a part of weddings in many different cultures and faiths for thousands of years, representing two hearts joined as one.  

• THE OFFICIANT WRAPS THE CORD AROUND THE COUPLES HANDS / WRISTS, AND TIES THE HANDFASTING CORD WITH AN INFINITY KNOT AS A SYMBOL OF THE COUPLE’S SPIRITUAL BOND. 
• THE CORD WILL STAY ON AS THEY MAKE THEIR EXIT DOWN THE AISLE AT THE END OF THE CEREMONY, AND CAN BE REMOVED AFTERWARDS.)

A true marriage begins before the wedding day, and lasts long after the celebrations have passed. It can be easy to lose sight of the ‘magic’ – the spark – of marriage, in the daily ups and downs of living. Take a moment to really look at each other. Just be here, right now, together. Do you feel the magic in this moment? Cherish it!

As you leave here today, let your wedding rings be a reminder of the love you feel. Let this knot be a symbol of your unbreakable bond. And may your friendship bring you back to each other, always!

• THE COUPLE KISS / EMBRACE, THEN RAISE THEIR BOUND HANDS IN CELEBRATION BEFORE MAKING THEIR EXIT DOWN THE AISLE.

• THE WEDDING PARTY EXITS. THE CEREMONY ENDS.
• (AFTER THE CEREMONY, THE WEDDING OFFICIANT MUST CLOSE THE CIRCLE & SIGN THE MARRIAGE LICENSE.)
