Lavender Marriage Wedding Ceremony Script

two friends posing together, smiling

A modern lavender marriage wedding ceremony script focused on platonic partnership, friendship vows, and a legally valid wedding structure with customizable elements.

This sample ceremony wording is for a modern, platonic, lavender marriage ceremony. This script is written with Gen Z lavender marriages in mind, not unions intended to conceal one partner’s authentic self. It can be personalized to fit your relationship, humor, and the overall tone of your ceremony (formal, casual, funny, etc).

How this script is different from a typical wedding script: Traditional marriage ceremonies usually talk about romantic love, raising children, and promises to honor and cherish each other. These things might be part of your platonic marriage, but they aren’t a given like they are in traditional partnerships! This script is centered on deep friendship, mutual respect, and platonic love, without the implied romantic parts.

What’s the same: This script includes all the wording needed for a legal marriage ceremony. Like typical wedding scripts, it includes a Declaration of Intent and Pronouncement of Marriage. You still need these elements in your wedding, even if you are marrying as friends or life partners (without a romantic component). There are also optional phrases about family and children to show how these might fit, to include or omit as you choose.

OPENING WORDS

Officiant

Welcome everyone! We’re gathered here today for a very special celebration – as (Person 1) and (Person 2) say “absolutely not” to waiting around for romance to strike before they start building grown-up lives and thriving! They’re saying YES to life-long friendship, YES to building a village, and YES to marriage – in a very authentic way.

Ultimately, marriage is about the promise to show up for someone, even when life gets hard. It’s about promising to be someone’s biggest cheerleader, to keep their secrets, and to celebrate every win with them.

It’s having someone to drive you to the airport at 5am, to sit with you in the hospital waiting room, to help you pick out an outfit for that big occasion  – like finally getting a date with the cute guy in the apartment upstairs. It’s an agreement to share the responsibilities of everyday living, and appreciating someone for who they really are.

They say friendship is the basis for any strong marriage. That’s never been more true than today! (Person 1) and (Person 2) are marrying for friendship, and this ceremony demonstrates their deep commitment to each other’s happiness and success.
