Believe it or not, your favorite mascot can help you tie the knot! In fact, these loveable luggs have been helping to unite devoted fans in lasting matrimony for years.
The only catch? Mascots that don’t usually talk will have to break character just long enough to perform the Declaration of Intent and Pronouncement of Marriage aloud - or hold up written cue cards like Colt's mascot Blue does in the wedding shown below. And the person behind the plush exterior will need to meet a few local requirements to sign your marriage license.
Keep reading for the basics on how to have a mascot officiate your wedding, plus our favorite examples of mascots making marry!
Yes! Your favorite brand or team mascot can officiate your wedding as long as the person wearing the costume meets the local legal requirements for officiants.
The simplest way to meet these legal requirements is by getting ordained online with a reputable church like American Marriage Ministries, and filing any necessary paperwork. Once your chosen officiant has been legally ordained, they can wear any costume they choose while officiating your ceremony.
Remember: Officiants must use their legal name when signing a marriage license – no mascot names or pawprints can be written on the legal document. However, they can certainly sign a mascot's name when filling out an unofficial, decorative marriage certificate!

Sports mascots can also walk you down the aisle or serve as ring bearer and flower mascot, like San Jose’s Sharkie has done so many times (they don’t call him The Hardest Working Fish in Sports for nothing!). Or dance at your wedding reception, like the Panther’s secondary mascot, Viktor E. Rat. Or just crash your wedding for kicks, like Gritty of Flyers fame.
Contact your favorite team or brand directly to ask about hiring their mascot for a public appearance. Many teams offer hourly rates for mascot appearances, often starting at a few thousand dollars per hour. This means that having an ordained mascot officiate your wedding could get pricey – but will be worth it for die hard fans.College and university mascots will cost less, however. As an example, Hooter the Owl, Temple’s mascot, is said to charge about $200 per half hour; while Gritty, of Flyers fame, charges closer to $3,000 an hour.

(Note: This unofficial wedding was performed by an unofficial officiant – a hologram definitely can’t sign a marriage license. Still, this was a creative way to promote the brand… and mischief! But if Chester does show up in the fur, he can make it official.)
