Greek-Nigerian NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo married his longtime partner Mariah Riddlesprigger over the weekend in an ultra-private wedding ceremony in Greece.
According to local reports the NBA star and his family wanted the event to be completely private and completely ‘unplugged,’ with zero members of the press and no guest cellphones allowed:
"Privacy was strictly maintained with guests and staff required to sign confidentiality agreements, and the only way someone could approach the wedding was reportedly via drone,” the local newspaper, The Proto Thema, reported.
While a few photos have surfaced of guests posing for a fun group shots against a wall (photobooth-style), there are so far no public photos of the wedding ceremony or reception – and it’s likely to stay that way.
Sources say that Antetokounmpo (aka the ‘Greek Freak’) and Riddlesprigger’s wedding celebration lasted three fun-filled days in Costa Navarino, Greece, a Mediterranean destination known for its white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and multiple luxury resorts. They say that the wedding ceremony was nonreligious (though we bet it might have included a few Greek Orthodox and Catholic elements to honor both of the interfaith couple’s faiths).
The Milwaukee Bucks basketball star and his new wife have been together for at least a decade and have three children together. The couple also share a business together; Antetokounmpo and Riddlesprigger launched the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation in 2022 to support local nonprofits in Milwaukee. But it wasn't Riddlesprigger's first business -- she launched her own loungewear clothing brand a year earlier in 2021, called Sincerely, Mariah.
(Note: Mariah recently updated her name on Instagram to Mariah Antetokounmpo; it may take sources time to catch up with this name change!)
Antetokounmpo and Riddlesprigger's decision to have a super private wedding – where most details have been kept secret from the world – is becoming a popular one. Several celebrity couples have chosen to marry in secret weddings and elopements, or in ‘unplugged’ wedding ceremonies, in which no cell phones or photography is allowed.
Other secret celebrity wedding couples include Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry (the witness-free private elopement before the main event), Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, Jonathan Van Ness and Mark Peacock, and Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley, among many others.
