Last week, while researching wedding trends, we were stopped mid-scroll by a startling image: a bride posed next to a make-shift guillotine with her tongue out, the machine’s steel blade bloody and dripping with – what? Raspberry puree, perhaps? Blackberry compote? A ritual sacrafice?
The guillotine cake cutter, it turns out, was the centerpiece of a Marie Antoinnete themed wedding celebration planned by the bride, Sabrina Harb, and her cooperative partner, Kurt Brossman.
“"[Kurt] was okay with the theme,” Harb told reporters after the moment went viral on social media. “He doesn't really care. He's used to my creative psychosis, if you will. We were going over the wedding budget, and he was like, 'Hey, do you think we really need a guillotine? Like, is that really necessary?' And I was like, 'Yes, don't ask me that question. That's a silly question.' "
Watch scenes from the cake cutting ceremony below!

Harb is no stranger to scroll-stopping themes – it’s what she does for a living. The newly-married Antoinnete-enthusiast is the founder of Moody Solace – an account where she shares themed party-hosting ideas – and the co-founder of Just Because Supper Club – a small club hosting monthly themed gatherings in San Diego “just because.”
Whether Harb joyfully announced “Let them eat cake!” after beheading the bridal dessert is unknown. Unfortunately, the folks at People magazine didn’t include this curious morsel in their exclusive: “Bride Cuts Cake with a Guillotine at Marie Antoinette-Themed Wedding (Exclusive)” Kind of a necessary question if you ask us.
Still, they did uncover the flavor of the delicious stain on the guillotine blade! The “blood” was actually a schmear of red velvet cake crumbs!

Looking for other creative ways to cut a wedding cake? Try a sword!
We immediately investigated whether or not a cake-cutting guillotine had ever been implemented at a wedding before. As far as we can tell, it hasn’t. (Congrats on the creativity, Sabrina! There are commercial cheesecake guillotines if anyone’s interested.)
We did find quite a few bloody wedding desserts, however, including one with a guillotine theme!

Then there’s this enticing Game of Thrones wedding cake. “We decided to create a slaughtered cake,” the designer said, adding, “The daggers, swords and arrows were all created from chocolate, plunged into the cake and chocolate, revealing weeping bloody wounds."

Talk about your dark romance! This black three-tier wedding cake is drenched in a delectable red glaze and “crowned” with a fondant bleeding heart.

A gothic wedding cake to die for! This sweet treat was created by Monica Faba of @fabas_sweet_shop, a cake artist located in Tampa, Florida.
Look at this unusual beauty of a cake, which "bleeds" an edible, flavored fake blood when cut! The cake-topper features a beheaded groom, adding to the gruesome wedding theme.

Created by Reddit user Creative-Jellybean, who says, "First wedding cake - but make it bleed! ...The bottom 4 tiers are cake [vanilla, chocolate, and gluten-free vanilla) and the top tier is a dummy layer that I rigged with edible blood (raspberry flavored])." This darkly-delicious birthday cake could easily be redesigned with a wedding in mind – and has a guillotine cake topper to remind you that life is short. So enjoy it!

Appropriately described as "memento mori" themed and a "macabre confectionary masterpiece," this cake features a custom-made scale-replica guillotine cake-topper, crafted by Mike Bodziak of Seriously Disgusting for Charlie Hintz of Cult of Weird. We love it!
