Nearly every couple that gets married has struggled with the question: “How much PTO should I take for my wedding?” Why not get married on a 4-day weekend to make the most of your and your guests’ vacation time!
On top of the usual wedding planning logistics (venue, officiant, attire, budget, etc.), there’s also the need to navigate how much vacation time to take — and whether or not your boss and coworkers will be supportive of your plans.
Most experts suggest taking one or two days off work before your wedding day if the ceremony is local, so that you can welcome guests, take care of last minute details, and relax before the big day. For destination weddings, a few extra days are helpful, around three or four days before the ceremony.
This is why long-weekend weddings are so appealing; most couples already need time off around the wedding to prepare, and then wind-down.
Most newlyweds use PTO for their wedding and honeymoon. Most wedding guests do too, for traveling to and from the wedding, and for celebrating with the couple.
So making the most of your PTO when choosing a wedding date isn’t just smart financially — it also makes it easier for guests to attend your wedding. Especially out of town guests.
With all this in mind, here are the best wedding dates in 2026 for maximizing your PTO — and your celebration!

*Note: These PTO dates are designed for classic 9-to-5ers and corporate cuties. If you work retail, hospitality, seasonal service work, etc. — you know these holiday weekends can be difficult to take off. You might want to consider an affordable weekday wedding or off-peak date instead.
