This original wedding ceremony script celebrates marriage as the ultimate bond of trust between you and your partner. It places love and joy at the center of your marriage, and at the center of this profoundly beautiful finite life.

In marriage, you trust that your spouse will always have your back, and that your love will grow and deepen for years to come. Who needs faith in mythical beings or spirits when you have this extraordinary faith in each other?
“A true marriage begins before the wedding day, and the promises of marriage must be renewed every day to come.
Marriage is about faith (insert record scratch sound). Don’t worry, I’m not talking about faith in some ethereal being lurking in the clouds, or some mythological god who’s never around when the rent’s due. It’s about having faith in each other, having faith in your commitment, and trusting that no matter what the future brings, you have each other’s backs.
Someone once said, “A shared sorrow is cut in half; a shared joy is doubled.” That’s the marriage we wish for you. Because the purpose of this finite human life is joy and love.”
The wedding ceremony begins with a warm welcome from the wedding officiant, followed by a few words on the meaning of marriage and the importance of trust, joy, and love.
Next, the officiant leads the couple through a simple ‘declaration of intent’ to marry, followed by an exchange of written wedding vows.
After exchanging wedding rings, the couple recites a funny poem while toasting their favorite beverage (wine, whisky, coffee, or tea, you decide!) as part of a lighthearted unity ceremony. (We’ve also included a second, more-traditional poem for couples who want to keep things sweet.)
The ceremony ends with a simple pronouncement from the officiant, and the newlyweds share a kiss while friends and family members cheer and clap.
This unique wedding officiant script is a perfect choice for an atheist couple who wish to marry in a loving nonreligious ceremony. The tone is lighthearted and funny, with an emphasis on trust, love, joy, honesty, and partnership.
