Listen now:
As a wedding vendor, you do everything you possibly can to bring people’s dream wedding to life – whether it’s a luxury black tie bash in the ballroom or a cute license signing in the hotel lobby. You thrive on getting the little details right, the ones that make or break a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
This means you ask your clients a lot of questions to understand their vision for the day: “Do you like this, or that?” “How many guests do you expect?” “What’s your wedding budget for [this unique service]?” and “What color, what era, what style, what theme, and what tone do you envision for your wedding day?”
But there might be one very important question missing from your client questionnaire:
“Are there any accommodations I can provide (such as physical access, sensory considerations, or other needs) to make [this service] more accessible for you and your guests?”
The exact wording you use is up to you, but the purpose of this question is to help you accommodate all of your clients and their guests better – including those with chronic illnesses, medical conditions, sensory issues, various disabilities, specific language or communication needs, and more.
Asking clients about needed accommodations on the pre-wedding questionnaire helps you offer the best version of your services, specifically tailored to each unique client. It also takes the burden off of clients to bring up the subject on their own, making the experience feel more comfortable, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone involved.

Tailored services are also more memorable to clients and their guests. This might include limiting the use of flash during photography to accommodate sensory needs, selecting ADA accessible wedding venues for mobility needs, hiring an ASL or BASL interpreter for Deaf clients and guests, providing extra rehearsal time to prepare for the wedding ceremony, or planning a 'silent disco' instead of a traditional DJ set to create a sensory-friendly experience for Autistic clients and guests.
The result? This one question can also help you attract more business in the long run. So add this question to your team’s wedding officiant questionnaire, wedding photographer questionnaire, wedding planner questionnaire, and so on!
Is it time to update your client questionnaire? Wedding planning can be stressful, but knowing your wedding vendors are asking the right questions and prioritizing your comfort can make all the difference! Give your wedding questionnaire a fresh look to see if you’re doing all you can to make the wedding process enjoyable and accessible for couples. (Photo: Lorado / iStock)

ORDAINED MINISTER ONLINE APPLICATION
Why AMM? American Marriage Ministries is an inclusive nondenominational internet church that ordains and trains ministers to officiate marriage ceremonies. We are a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit church, and help people from all backgrounds and beliefs become ordained ministers for weddings. Our online ordination is free, accessible, and never expires.
AMM Ministers can legally officiate weddings in every state* (it's much harder in Virginia, where we're looking into our options). After getting ordained with AMM, you might need to register your ordination with your local county clerk’s office. Click the link above to get started!
