One of our favorite Swedish wedding traditions – and soon to be yours – is playfully called the “kissing game.” To play, wedding guests take turns trying to sneak a kiss with the newly-married bride or groom whenever the other partner leaves the room.
Imagine it: The bride makes a trip to the bathroom to refresh her makeup? Female guests quickly line up to kiss the groom! When the groom steps outside for a selfie with some friends? Male guests step up to share a playful kiss with the bride! As many kisses as possible must be shared before the missing partner returns – usually on the cheek, but not always…
What fun!
This Swedish wedding game is a great way to get guests from both sides of the family chatting and laughing with each other, and it can certainly lighten the mood after a long wedding day.

It’s easy to update this tradition for same-sex or same-gender weddings, too. Or simply make the kissing game fully gender-neutral, by encouraging guests of all genders to kiss the newlyweds whenever the chance presents itself!
