Cardi B & Offset are latest celebrities to plan sequel wedding ceremony

Cardi B just announced that she’s planning a formal wedding ceremony in celebration of her 5th anniversary with Offset, making the couple the latest celebrity duo to choose a sequel wedding ceremony!

 

Sequel wedding ceremonies are a unique type of vow renewal ceremony – a second wedding ceremony held after a couple’s first wedding. These second weddings have gained popularity in the past few years, when the pandemic forced many couples to hold smaller first weddings with the plan to party big with friends and family at a second ceremony later on.

The sequel wedding trend has captured the hearts of many other celebrity couples in recent years. Most recently, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck renewed their marriage commitment during a second ceremony in Georgia. Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian; Justin Beiber and Hailey Beiber; Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas; Viola Davis and Julius Tennon; Dolly Parton and Carl Dean; and Beyoncé and Jay-Z have all had sequel weddings, too.

So what will Cardi B and Offset’s sequel wedding ceremony look like? 

 

And who will officiate?

Cardi B and Offset’s first wedding was held in secret in September of 2017. Very few details were made available to the public, except that it was an intimate bedroom ceremony with Cardi’s cousins serving as witnesses (via The List).

 

And in 2019, a source told Hollywood Life that “[The couple] don’t feel the need or the pressure to celebrate with a big, lavish wedding because their wedding day was perfect and everything they wanted.”

 

These details suggest they might stick to something small and private this time around too, like a deluxe microwedding at their Atlanta mansion … but maybe not!

So, we don’t know much about what their planned renewal ceremony will hold yet. Will the second celebration be large and luxurious? Or small and sophisticated? Will they ask a friend or relative to officiate as many celebrities have done, or hire a professional officiant? 

 

Time will tell, but one thing’s for sure given the couple’s history – it’s bound to be personal, original, and very romantic.
