300 couples gathered in Chicago this weekend to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversaries – in the largest group vow renewal ceremony we’ve ever seen!
Each couple attending the event at Holy Name Cathedral was hitched in 1972, making this their ‘golden year,’ and has spent the past five decades learning how to make a marriage last for the long haul.
Many of the couples described the event as deeply emotional as they renewed their vows in the company of hundreds of other long-time partners, and Cardinal Blase J. Cupich delivered a moving homily in honor of the couples’ impressive devotion.
One happy couple offered this piece of wisdom to reporters: “Negative or positive, you have to communicate. You can't read each other's minds. You have to communicate.” (Anthony and Cynthia Morales, via ABC 7 Chicago)
Sounds like good advice to us!
