Love it or hate it, Darry Ring is a masterwork in branding and marketing. Built on the concept of “One Love, One Lifetime,” the company’s business model is simple, if audacious: Customers can only buy an engagement or wedding ring for one person in their lifetime. One ring, for one partner, forever.
So while romcoms revel in second chances at love, and nearly 1 in 3 Americans end up in blended families, Darry Ring dares to say “no take backs!” on love.
But how serious is a Darry Ring really? If love was a sure thing, you wouldn’t have to reinstall your dating apps every six months. So we have to ask: Is a signed Darry Ring True Love Agreement legally binding?
Here’s everything you need to know about Darry Ring’s ‘true love rings,’ the DR True Love Agreement, engagement ring etiquette after a break up, and how a Darry Ring agreement compares to other types of commitment agreements, like domestic partnerships or cohabitation agreements.

Darry Ring is a luxury jewelry brand based in China. As described above, each ring sold by the company symbolizes a vow to love only one person in your lifetime. Customers can only buy an engagement ring or wedding ring for one person, who they’ve declared their true love. Rings come in a variety of styles, with natural or lab grown diamonds and emeralds in various settings.
You can buy multiple Darry Rings, but they must all be for the same recipient – the person you name as your true love on your True Love Agreement.
Here’s how it works:
And if your sweetheart wants to check that the ring you proposed with was meant for them, from the start? They can, using Darry Ring’s Love Check feature. Just type in the DR Certificate No., and the name of the person the ring was originally purchased for pops up.
(Imagine the drama if you purchase a secondhand ring! Sustainability might not be worth the scandal, no?)

This is where things really heat up: is a Darry Ring worth it? Is it heartfelt, or hype? Is this just data-mining hidden behind diamonds and hope?
Like your proposal, it’s personal: Some people say enthusiastically yes, it’s worth it; for others it’s a hard no.
If you’re one of the people that finds the idea of ‘one ring, one love’ completely romantic, you’re not alone! Many people love the idea of gifting and wearing a ring that tells the world you’re in love love, and are locking it down for life.
“Just got engaged and had to share this special moment 💍❤️ We chose a Darry Ring because the “one ring for life” concept really meant something to us. It’s definitely more expensive than some other rings, but the meaning behind it made it feel worth it,” one newly-engaged couple says.
But if you’re someone who finds the whole thing gimmicky and possessive, you’re in good company too. Public opinion appears completely split on the Darry Ring brand, with many people claiming that the forever-gesture isn’t worth a higher price.
“Darry Ring’s idea sounds romantic, but it’s really just a branding tactic. The quality isn’t anything special for the price, and the “one ring for life” rule doesn’t add real value. You’re better off choosing a ring based on quality and personal meaning rather than a company’s marketing strategy,” says one ring-enthusiast.
The cheapest Darry Ring costs about $500; while the most expensive rings are around $13,300. They say you can't buy love, but this true love ring comes with a price tag!
That's on top of the wedding costs, too. The average wedding cost is between $29,000 and $35,000 (for events with 150 guests or so).
The wording on the True Love Agreement is very similar to traditional marriage vows. Under the written vow, there’s a spot for both partners to sign their name:
“With this unique Darry Ring,
In the name of love,
I take thee to be my faithful partner and my one true love,
To have and to hold, from this day forward,
For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health,
To love and to cherish, till death do us part.
True love never ends.”

Most likely, no. A Darry Ring True Love Agreement is generally viewed as a symbolic vow, not a legally binding contract.
The DR agreement is part of a marketing strategy designed by the company, which is based in China. Meanwhile, formal legal commitments, like a domestic partnership document or cohabitation agreement, are issued by an official government office or drafted by a qualified attorney and follow local laws.

Yes, the Darry Ring website does use the word “binding” to describe its agreement. But this is more like the “binding ritual” you performed in your kitchen last week to keep your roommate from eating your leftover burritos. Unless you’re a practicing witch, it probably won’t protect your carne asada, and a this ring isn’t a marriage license. In this case, “binding” just means you and your partner’s names are both linked forever – in the company’s internal tracking system.

Engagement ring etiquette after a break up is tricky, but there are actually state laws about who gets the ring. In some states, engagement rings are considered conditional gifts that must be returned if the marriage is called off before it's official, regardless of who gets cold feet. Consider talking with a lawyer to know your rights in your state, and whether you or your ex is entitled to keep the ring.
So, what happens if your true love sours, leaving you alone at home, surrounded by empty pizza boxes and cheesy-puff bags? (Hypothetically, of course.) Can you put that ring in a drawer for the next time love comes knocking?
Nope. No take backs, remember? Because of the company’s strict ethos of ‘one love, one lifetime,’ you are not allowed to change the name on a True Love Agreement. This could make it difficult (or even downright awkward) to use the ring for a different proposal to someone new, because each ring is engraved with its unique identifying Certificate Number. It could also make it difficult to sell the ring to someone else.
(But don’t worry, you can always melt it down for parts!)
