Black wedding dresses are finally getting the appreciation they deserve! From alt / gothic wedding looks to sophisticated black tie styles, there’s a black wedding dress for every modern marrier.
Below are a few of our favorite black wedding dresses to inspire you! But before we dive in, here are a few things to consider when choosing the perfect dress.
Small details bring a dress to life and make the style your own. As you consider how to spice up a black wedding dress, think about accessories that capture your personality and culture, such as colorful corsages, crowns and tiaras, necklaces and earrings, and even shoes.
The same dress will look and ‘feel’ different as you walk down the aisle depending on how you accessorize! Think wedding heels vs Doc Martens, black roses vs pink roses, a cowboy hat vs halo crown, and so on. There's no right or wrong way to accessorize your look; wear something that makes you feel incredible.
If you're planning an all black wedding theme, want a specific look for your wedding photos, or have a desired 'dress code' for the event, let your wedding officiant know as soon as possible. Most wedding officiants will be comfortable wearing a dark or neutral color to coordinate with you, or a bold color if you want them in a contrasting color instead.
Your wedding officiant will be in many of your wedding photos, so this is something to plan for. They'll be standing up front with you for the duration of the ceremony, guiding you through your wedding vows and ring exchange, and then pronouncing you married.
Consider asking a close friend or relative to officiate your wedding, someone who understands your personal style and who will be willing to dress up and match your energy on the big day. Having a friend officiate is a simple way to add intimacy and a personal touch to the ceremony. Your friend can get ordained online as a minister with American Marriage Ministries to officiate.

Why AMM? American Marriage Ministries is an inclusive nondenominational internet church that ordains and trains ministers to officiate marriage ceremonies. We are a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit church, and help people from all backgrounds and beliefs become ordained ministers for weddings. Our online ordination is free, accessible, and never expires.
Officiating weddings is an incredible honor, and a great way to show your love and support for the people getting married. As a wedding officiant, you will help to create memorable ceremonies and memories that last a lifetime.
AMM Ministers can legally officiate weddings in every state* (it's much harder in Virginia, where we're looking into our options). After getting ordained with AMM, you might need to register your ordination with your local county clerk’s office. Click the link above to get started!
