There’s a new script in our free Ceremony Script Library!
This original wedding script, written by AMM Minister Rev. Scarlett Mullikin, is based on Viking lore and the Vikings television show, and includes light Pagan wedding elements for a heartfelt and captivating ceremony.
After the sacred circle is cast, the Officiant welcomes guests from near and far…
“Whether you came by car, plane, or longship from Kattegat, thank you for gathering here today, as we begin this Celebration of Marriage.”
Next, the Officiant makes a sweet charge to the couple, to remember the sacred promises of marriage as their lives and families are joined together as one, and to keep each other close in their hearts no matter where life’s many travels take them…
“With your hearts true, may you weather any storms. May the Gods watch over you both and always guide you safely home.”
A moving exchange of vows is next, with a call to Odin, Thor, Frigg, and Loki for blessings of knowledge, strength, prosperity, and laughter. This sweet pledge is followed by an exchange of wedding rings, and the option to incorporate symbolic swords or daggers for a more authentic feeling ceremony.
A traditional handfasting ceremony, followed by a hand blessing from the Officiant (a traditional blessing of the hands), is included to honor the couple’s spiritual bond, followed by a closing blessing and speech, the pronouncement, and a merry toast of mead served in festive Viking drinking horns.
“May you enjoy a lifetime of sunrises and sunsets together. May your partnership continue to grow stronger through the years to come. And may the Gods always keep you safe. 'Til Valhalla, SKAL!”
This Viking wedding ceremony script is perfect for couples looking to incorporate Pagan, Celtic, and Old Norse elements with a modern twist into their wedding ceremony. It’s fun, lighthearted, and heartfelt, with a focus on community and the sacred bond of marriage, with nods to the old Ways, Old Gods, and the enchanting lore of the Vikings.
This custom wedding ceremony script was written by AMM Minister and experienced wedding officiant Rev. Scarlett Mullikin, based in Kankakee County, Illinois.
