An Elizabeth Holmes Themed Wedding: 10 Fun Ideas For Your Symbolic Ceremony

Plan a wedding inspired by disgraced biotech-innovator-turned-docu-starlet Elizabeth Holmes, and her beloved front man — uh, fiancé — Billy Evans!

Who doesn’t love a celebrity inspired wedding? Following the release of A24’s You Can See Everything on Oct 16th, Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans’ romance is all anyone can seem to talk about.

The celebrity couple have dominated headlines, but just in case you missed this cultural watershed moment: the rivetingly voyeuristic documentary, You Can See Everything, features comedian and satirical filmmaker Nathan Fielder interviewing Holmes before she leaves for prison. It’s co-directed by filmmaker Lance Oppenheim, and has grossed about $45 million in just two weeks.

There’s no doubt you’ll see a DIY Holmes costume or three at every Halloween party this year (and probably a few nearly-nude Nathans, too). And there are more than enough meme-worthy moments in the three-hour film to keep online forums buzzing for decades.

So why not commit to the bit like Liz did, and plan a wedding with Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans as your inspiration? Because let’s be serious — this ride-or-die pair has survived crushingly bad press, long distance dating, and co-parenting from federal prison. If that’s not soulmates, what is?

Elizabeth Holmes Wedding Inspiration (With Billy Evans Too, Obvs)

1. Keep Your Social Circle Guessing

In the months or years leading up to your wedding date, it’s essential to keep your social circle guessing about your current marital status! This builds fun anticipation for your actual magical day. Tell the fam that you were already married in secret to create some buzz. Then watch as the rumor spreads organically to your second and third tier friends!

The celebrity inspo: Elizabeth Holmes and Billy Evans lied about being married to their friends, family, and news outlets in 2019, with Vanity Fair breaking the news of the secret wedding announced on the literal one-year anniversary of Holmes’ criminal indictment by a federal grand jury: “Inside Elizabeth Holmes’s Secret Wedding.”

Billy Evans continues to refer to Holmes as his wife, telling David Friedberg at the 2026 All-In Summit this year, “...yes, Elizabeth Holmes is my wife and best friend and partner.” The two are still not legally married, but as Holmes told People last year, “Maybe we’ll get married someday.” That’s it, keep them guessing!

2. Buy Your Wedding Rings on Amazon?

It’s important to buy your wedding rings from Amazon, the multi-trillion dollar empire, not a local artisan jeweler. After all, you want your rings to symbolize your personal commitment and the depth of your love, and you need them to arrive quickly. No time to waste, you have places to be!

The celebrity inspo: “‘We bought rings on Amazon before I went to prison,’” Holmes told People last year, “glancing down at the silver band on her ring finger. ‘It’s just special to me because our love is deep. It’s real.’”

3. Black Turtlenecks for the Guest Dress Code

This wedding needs a strict dress code for guests! When you send out your wedding invitations, make sure your friends know to wear their best Steve Jobs inspired black turtleneck. For summer weddings, suggest a breathable light cotton or bamboo. For winter weddings, a cozy sweater or knit turtleneck is a great choice!

The celebrity inspo: These pictures of Elizabeth Holmes, ala Steve Jobs.

"My mom had me in black turtlenecks when I was like eight...I probably have 150 of them,” Holmes once told People. That's enough turtlenecks for your entire guest list! 4. Have a “Wolf” Walk You Down the Aisle

Give your furry friend a VIP role in your wedding ceremony! Dogs make great ‘flower pups,’ ring bearers, or protective companions as you walk down the aisle. In some states, your dog can be your (symbolic) wedding officiant! Just be sure to call them a wolf for the entire celebration, regardless of who asks.

The celebrity inspo: Remember when Liz insisted that her husky, Balto, was actually a wolf? As Theranos was under active investigation in 2017, Holmes purchased the adorable husky pup from an unnamed breeder. Former employees say that she brought Balto into the office frequently, although the dog wasn’t housebroken and created quite the mess. And to anyone who asked, she adamantly said that Balto wasn’t a dog, he was a wolf.

5. Show Up to the Wedding Venue With Confidence

No need to book a venue for this wedding! Just show up to your desired venue on your wedding date with all your vendors and guests in tow, and tell the staff they must have lost your reservation. Don’t back down, no matter what — your confidence is what makes this small fib work! (Confidence is what puts the ‘con’ in con job after all.)

6. One Drop of Blood Unity Ritual

Seal your wedding vows with a cutesy fake blood unity ceremony! Using a vial of rose-scented fake blood and a ceremonial tapestry needle or blunt-tipped darning needle, place one drop of symbolic “blood” on each other’s ring fingers. This unity ceremony works best right after the wedding ring exchange.

The celebrity inspo: Nothing is more iconic than Theranos’ innovative ‘one drop of blood’ dream! It was the promise behind the company’s entire rise to fame, and the bold claim that made us first fall for a fresh-faced Elizabeth Holmes. Was the tech real? No. God no. But as Holmes eagerly points out in You Can See Everything, it could be real one day. And isn’t that just as good?

7. ‘They do’s Instead of 'I do's

When the officiant turns to you and asks if you commit to your partner, answer with a conceptual ‘They do!’, instead of a boring, hyper-accountable ‘I do.’ Because honestly, aren’t modern weddings more for your audience than for you, anyway? Is your marriage really yours, or is it just the collective perception of people viewing your love from the outside? You might not be legally married without that ‘I do,’ but like Holmes reminds us, your bond is more than a piece of paper.

The celebrity inspo: When Holmes and Evans spend a chunk of time in You Can See Everything debating the wording of a New York Times’ quote about an actor's portrayal of Holmes, “They’re not playing me…They're playing a character I created,” (as referenced here in The New Yorker), Holmes is really pointing out an existential rift that we can all relate to, right?

There’s the person we really are, and the person we hope to be. There’s the person we try to show the world, and the person convicted of 11 felony counts of fraud and conspiracy, serving time in a Texas prison. Who can even keep track!

8. Wedding Gift Registry Inspired by Federal Prison Commissaries

Skip the typical, normie wedding registry choices — Zola, Williams Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, or Bloomingdale’s — in favor of practical staples inspired by institutional commissaries for inmates! Think cozy sweatpants or nicotine lozenges for trading, beanies, or barbeque chicken sticks. The most coveted items among inmates make great wedding gifts too, including postage stamps, savory mackerel pouches or ramen, and homemade tattoos.

Check out this Federal Bureau of Prisons Commissary Shopping List for ideas!

The celebrity inspo:  When Nathan visits Holmes in prison, she tells him that she’s been craving turkey jerky. Turkey jerky! Unfortunately, Billy Evans estimates that a whopping 70% of the money that’s put into Holmes’ prison commissary fund at Bryan Federal Prison Camp in Texas is garnished against the $452 million she owes in restitution to Theranos fraud victims. That’s some expensive jerky.

9. Serve Coffee at the Reception, But Don’t Call it Coffee

Create an espresso-infused cocktail list that will keep your guests dancing straight through the night, but lie about it! Espresso martinis, white russians, irish coffees — all served in mugs — and little dishes of chocolate-espresso beans everywhere. As your loved ones savor that delicious coffee flavor, insist it’s not coffee. This is essential. Remind them that you don’t drink coffee, while drinking coffee. Call it herbal tea, if you must, but not coffee. Never coffee. It’s part of your wedding’s lingering mystique.

The celebrity inspo: Holmes was spotted drinking a lot of coffee in You Can See Everything, especially for someone who famously doesn’t like coffee. The French press? The iced Starbucks drink? We didn’t see a green juice anywhere. Something tells us that Holmes may have exaggerated her anti-coffee stance in years past, but we’re glad to see her finally living her truth on the big screen! We’ll keep our eyes on this “What is Elizabeth Holmes Starbucks order ???” Reddit board, featuring a sneaky shot of the film, for more coffee cocktail ideas.

10. Hire Look-Alikes for You and Your Partner

Our last fun idea for your Elizabeth Holmes wedding theme? Cast two actors for the reception that look eerily like you and your partner. Dress them up in your most iconic fits, and coach them on your mannerisms and speaking habits in the weeks leading up to the wedding. Have your hair and makeup team style them just like you on the big day, and then send them out to mingle with friends and family! With a great stand-in, you can easily avoid all of those tedious family conversations, and can fully enjoy your time with your partner instead.

You can even bring these actors back to help you celebrate vow renewals, anniversaries, your kid’s parties, or your actual wedding!

The celebrity inspo: Amanda Seyfried and Christopher Abbott are perfectly cast to portray Holmes and Evans in the documentary while Liz was locked up! Seyfried got her first taste of Holmes' character in The Dropout, and bringing her back for You Can See Everything was an act of true metafiction genius. These two brought a realness and depth to the film that could have easily been lost with Holmes behind bars.

Which of These Unique Wedding Ideas Will You Add to Your Big Day?

If there's one thing Elizabeth Holmes can teach us on the wedding day, it's to commit. Commit to the bit, double down on love, and say yes to a lifetime sentence with your sweetheart!
