Imagine what our world might look like if Shakespeare or Jane Austen or Keats had used AI to write their prose and poems, instead of their hearts and heads. They might have gotten more writing done on a deadline, but at what cost to quality? (And humanity in general...we're big fans of the classics here at AMM.)
More on this: How AI Could Devalue the Work of Wedding Officiants
It’s a question that anyone writing for a human audience should at least consider, even if it doesn’t convince you to step away from the keyboard and pick up a pen. Especially when you're writing for something as deeply human as a wedding ceremony!
Using AI to write a wedding speech or a script is increasingly commonplace. So much so that entire platforms have been created to enable it – AI wedding speech generators and ceremony builders like CelebrateAlly, SpeechGenerator.co, ToastWiz, Provenance, and dozens more.
Are these generators any good? Well, they’re not inherently bad to use, and they might be a great jumping off point for some people. And we get it – writing a speech or wedding ceremony can be difficult, even if there are a lot of great free resources to help you get started. Quality is in the eye of the beholder – or the ear of the wedding guest as the case may be.

Still, there are a few things that might give you away if you use AI to write your wedding toast instead of putting pen to paper like heartfelt writers of the past. If you decide to use AI as a helping hand, but don’t want anyone to know, consider making revisions that avoid the following signs – so that your final draft sounds and feels like you.

Below are a few qualities that can give away an AI generated wedding toast, speech, script, or vows. Can you think of any others we missed?
AI usually plays it very safe when writing a wedding speech – avoiding strong opinions, and any jokes or observations that might be considered risky. This is generally a good rule for humans to follow, too. But as a friend of the couple, you know which inside jokes are ok to include, offbeat topics that might be a good fit, and can personalize any humor and themes in a way that AI just can’t.
Much like the item above, your AI speech generator won’t know any details about your friends’ relationship except what you feed it. This means that in general, AI wedding speeches feel very generic. To avoid this giveaway, spice things up with personal stories, memories, and moments – things that only a friend or family member who was there to witness them can know!

AI generated wedding speeches and toasts tend to lean pretty hard into the quirky, happily-ever-after, or two-puzzle-pieces views of marriage. You’d probably recognize it, something like:
“watching you together is like seeing love work the way it’s supposed to. You’re kind, patient, weird in all the right ways, and most of all, you're a team!”
This might be true for some couples, but it’s more of an ideal than a standard if we’re honest… Instead, consider adding heartfelt advice for navigating life’s ups and downs, or an honest reflection on how the couple makes their relationship work.
AI wedding speeches tend to be overly polished and witty. Although you’re probably very funny and rather brilliant – unless you’re a professional comedian, you’re probably not going to sit down and write a pun-filled knee-slapper all on your own. And a heartfelt wedding toast doesn’t have to read like marketing copy or the teaser for a romcom anyway, so take the pressure off and just speak from the heart.
(And if you are a professional romcom writer or comedian, be sure to throw in some personal stories so it shows!)
Most AI generated speeches and ceremonies are perfectly structured – good opening, natural transitions, a solid middle section, great pacing, and a tidy conclusion. This isn’t a bad thing, but it can sometimes be a giveaway that you didn’t write your speech yourself. Instead of abandoning this solid structure, add personal details and memories to make it special, and don’t be afraid to go on a small tangent to show the couple how much you love and support them.
