Wondering how to write an AI prompt that won’t lead to the same boring, generic wedding vows or toast? You’re in the right spot!
We’ve got tips on how to write better ChatGPT prompts, examples of AI prompts that work to help you get started, and even a prompt writer template to write custom prompts for ChatGPT generated wedding vows and officiant speeches.
First, let’s get this out in the open: Whether we like it or not, A.I. is probably here to stay. It’s already being used by almost every type of wedding vendor in the business: By wedding photographers to create dazzling photos; by planners to build virtual wedding venues and as virtual assistants; by Officiants and toast writers to create quick outlines or to write entire ceremonies; by dress and suit designers; by online wedding retailers; by engaged to-be-weds to write their wedding vows, and so on…
The problem with using a chatbot to communicate love and romance is that a chatbot doesn't sound like a human in love… At least not without a little help from actual humans.
That’s where a great prompt comes in! A ‘prompt’ is the command you use to communicate with an A.I. bot. It’s what you type in… and the quality of your prompt determines the quality of the response you’ll get from ChatGPT. This is an industry on its own, called ‘prompt engineering,’ but you don’t need to be an expert to get started.

Start with a clear command - an action word. What do you want the chatbot to do? In this case, you want it to write wedding vows, so just say so!
Instead of typing something indirect like, “How can I write wedding vows?”, try “Write wedding vows,” or “Write unique wedding vows…”
See the difference?
Next, your prompt should include some context - details to help personalize the response. For the best result, try ‘talking’ to ChatGPT like you would talk to a friend. For example:
“Write wedding vows for me! I’m getting married on Halloween to the best man I’ve ever met. He’s a total nerd like me and we’ve been together for five years. I want to say something funny but not over the top, sincere but not boring or old fashioned, and express how lucky I feel that we met.”
Decide how long you want your vows or speech to last and include this in your prompt. This could range anywhere between a sentence or two to a few minutes. In the example above, ChapGPT generated personalized vows that will take a couple minutes to read. But if you only need a sentence or two, you can say so. For example:
“Write wedding vows for me! Keep it to about four or five sentences for a short elopement ceremony. I’m getting married on Halloween to the best man I’ve ever met. He’s a total nerd like me and we’ve been together for five years. I want to say something funny but not over the top, sincere but not boring or old fashioned, and express how lucky I feel that we met.”
The best way to get ChatGPT to sound like you (or sound like a wedding client) is to tell it something about you. Provide a simple description of your personality traits, and the tone you want to convey on the wedding day. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect - you’ll be able to fine tune the response to make it shine. For example:
“Write wedding vows for me! Keep it to about four or five sentences for a short elopement ceremony. Make them sound like me, I’m social but introverted, a little silly, and super sincere. I’m getting married on Halloween to the best man I’ve ever met. He’s a total nerd like me and we’ve been together for five years. I want to say something funny but not over the top, sincere but not boring or old fashioned, and express how lucky I feel that we met.”
If ChatGPT doesn’t understand or doesn't follow the instructions in your prompt, clarify things just like you would when having a conversation. In the example above, ChatGPT ‘forgets’ the command to keep the vows short, so it’s time to redirect!
The benefit here is that you don’t have to worry about hurting its feelings – it’s a machine! – so just keep your follow-up prompts direct and add more details. And if it’s still not right, just hit ‘regenerate’ and ChatGPT will rewrite them for you.
Chances are, you’ll still need to make a few edits to your A.I. generated wedding vows. A few tweaks and they’ll be perfect!
That’s one of the greatest benefits of using ChatGPT and other A.I. bots to write for weddings – soon-to-be-weds and wedding professionals can save time while writing, and still have the chance to personalize the end result.
