This original wedding script combines modern traditions and gender neutral language with many familiar elements of the traditional Catholic marriage rite, for a heartfelt ceremony that perfectly captures the love and faith of modern Catholic LGBTQ+ couples.
The ceremony begins with a warm welcome from the wedding officiant, followed by an opening prayer and scripture readings from The Holy Bible. Several suggested readings are listed, including Romans 8:31-35, Romans 12:1-2,9-18.
Next, guests enjoy the singing of psalms and a homily delivered by the officiant. The couple exchange marriage vows and rings in a moving demonstration of their lasting commitment to each other. A period of joyful prayer follows, filling the ceremonial space with love and the spirit of Christ.
This wedding ceremony script also includes a loving delivery of The Lord’s Prayer, an optional unity candle lighting ceremony, a nuptial blessing from the officiant, and an excerpt from the Supreme Court’s summary Opinion for the landmark case (Obergefell v. Hodges) that legalized same-sex marriages in 2015.
The ceremony concludes with an uplifting group prayer to celebrate the couple’s marriage, followed by an introduction of the newlyweds, a cheerful round of applause, and a final closing prayer. A link to download a PDF of the ceremony script is also provided.
