Whether you’re planning a traditional Catholic wedding service, or a modern Catholic-inspired ceremony held in a casual setting outside of church, you’ll find the perfect sample script in the AMM Script Library.
Each of these two scripts, written by AMM Minister Paul Tedesco, contain all the usual elements of a Catholic wedding ceremony (except for communion). You’ll also find numerous suggestions for wedding songs, scripture readings, prayers, and more, to help you personalize your ceremony.
The Traditional Catholic Wedding Ceremony Script follows a traditional order of service. It opens with a warm welcome and prayer, followed by scripture and gospel readings, psalms, and song, with participation from guests.
Next, instructions for an optional Homily delivery from the wedding officiant, followed by a traditional statement of intention, exchange of wedding vows and rings, the nuptial blessing, and more.
“Father, you have made the bond of marriage a holy mystery, a symbol of Christ’s love for his Church. Hear our prayers for N. and N. With faith in you and in each other, they pledge their love today. May their lives always bear witness to the reality of that love.
…My dear friends, you have come together in this church so that the Lord may seal and strengthen your love in the presence of the Church’s minister, and this community. Christ abundantly blesses this love. He has already consecrated you in baptism and now he enriches and strengthens you so that you may assume the duties of marriage in mutual and lasting fidelity.”
Many modern Catholic weddings are performed by wedding officiants outside the traditional church setting, in fun outdoor locations like gardens, backyards, and parks, or in community centers and other public venues.
The Catholic Inspired Wedding Ceremony Script for Modern Couples follows a familiar order of service, with a few contemporary options for ceremonies held outside a church – such as in a garden, beach, community center, or backyard setting.
This script contains a ‘renewal of baptism’ ceremony, as well as a unity candle lighting ceremony, a warm welcome and prayer, several options for scripture and gospel readings, psalms and songs, the Lord’s Prayer, and a loving exchange of wedding vows and rings.
“Lord, you created us in your own image, and made us to be joined to each other, a union of bodies and hearts. You made the union of a married couple an image of your eternal covenant with us. Stretch out your hands now, and bless (Partner A) and (Partner B).
Grant that as they begin their marriage, they will become one in heart and mind, as witnesses to your presence in their marriage. Help them to create a home together (and give them children to be formed by the gospel).”
These custom Catholic wedding ceremony scripts were written by AMM Minister and former ordained priest / pastor Paul Tedesco.
