"The bride and groom were both from Mexico, and it was a large gathering.
All were dressed to the nines and the ladies had been cooking for days.
The closer it got to the time the bride was supposed to arrive, the more upset the groom got, and the closer he got to me.
Soon, he was pouring sweat, and me being a career nurse, I asked him if he was ok.
The young fellow turned, threw his arms around me, and started sobbing.

When he finally was able to speak, he told me, "I'm getting married and my Mama is not here.”
I put my arms around his shoulders and asked him if I could be his Mama today.
He smiled through his tears and wiped his eyes as his bride walked through the door.
After the ceremony, he addressed the gathering in Spanish, and everyone was looking at me and started clapping.
I was made exuberantly welcome and treated to the best Mexican food I've ever had."
