"In late March, I was approached by a Bride-to-be, who asked me to conduct a sunset beach wedding at Fort DeSoto State Park at the southern tip of Pinellas County, Florida. I love conducting beach weddings in Florida so I immediately and enthusiastically agreed.
During my pre-ceremony research, I learned that both the Bride and her soon-to-be Husband were avid fly fishing enthusiasts. In fact, that's how they had met and found a commonality that fanned the flames of their love for one another!
I suggested they form an arch with fly rods at the edge of the water, as an appropriate background for the marriage vows. They readily accepted.
The day of the wedding, I arrived at the park a bit early with my wife, who often takes photos and otherwise offers any needed assistance.
I found the wedding party assembled and ready to go... All except the Groom.
The Bride, somewhat disconcerted and embarrassed, pointed off into the distance.
There was the Groom – 150 yards offshore, wading up to his hips in the shallow water, wearing his wedding attire.

She apologized and told us he had wanted to try his luck with catching a fish before the ceremony.
So we waited…
and waited…
…until the slightly recalcitrant groom, oblivious to all around him in his effort to catch a fish, finally waded ashore.
Putting on the best smile he could under the circumstances and a bit embarrassed over having kept everyone waiting and failing to catch a fish after all, the Groom pulled off his hip waders and joined the Bride under the fly rods...
Where vows expressing eternal love for each other… and fly fishing… were spoken."
