As we head into the new year, American Marriage Ministries is more committed than ever to reducing our impact on the planet – both as individuals and as an organization – by prioritizing carbon neutrality.
We cherish this beautiful planet and the diverse global community we share it with. While our species seems to be at war with the same planet that keeps us alive, there’s still time to change, but that change will require organizations to acknowledge how their operations destroy the planet – we’re looking at you Chevron, Exxon, and other oil and coal extraction companies.
AMM, like other organizations, pollutes, even if it’s only a little. That’s why we’re proud of our ongoing partnership with Carbonfund.org, which allows us to offset our carbon footprint while serving a nationwide network of wedding officiants.
We want the families that are united in marriage by AMM ministers to enjoy the same, or better, world than the one their parent’s inherited.
Natural disasters, the emergence of new diseases, decreasing green spaces, widespread hunger and malnutrition, and other devastating events over the past few years demonstrate an increasingly urgent need to confront the dangers of climate change head-on at all levels. Governments, large corporations, small businesses, and individuals must all work collectively to bring about measurable change.
Climate change affects all of us, and it hits our most vulnerable and underprivileged communities first, and hardest.
That’s why we see climate change as a social justice issue, not just an environmental one.
As a nonprofit church with more than 870,000 diverse wedding ministers in communities across the nation, we remain committed to equality on all accounts. We know that future generations won’t benefit from our generations’ efforts if they aren’t able to breathe the air, drink the water, or harvest from the soil. Our commitment to leaving the world a better place than we found it means that offsetting our carbon footprint is essential.
We’re inspired by the ways meaningful events like weddings connect us to the world and people around us. Wedding ceremonies give our couples a chance to share their love and values with their communities, and we know that preserving the planet for future generations must be a part of that story.
In addition to our partnership with Carbonfund.org, American Marriage Ministries also supports Ocean Conservancy, International Primate Protection League, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Feeding America, Innocence Project, and many more charitable organizations dedicated to making the world a safer, cleaner place.
Over the coming months, we’ll continue to share new ideas on reducing the environmental impact of wedding ceremonies. Here are a few of the topics we’ve covered so far:
