A growing number of our ministers have asked us how they can support our advocacy efforts, and we’ve finally figured out how. Starting today, our “Get Involved” page will be regularly updated with ways you can help us support marriage equality and generally make this world a better place than we found it.
Right now, our efforts are focused on defending minister’s rights in Virginia and promoting carbon neutrality -- which means planting trees and promoting renewable energy. As of 2019, AMM is certified carbon neutral with the non-profit organization Carbon Fund. As officiants, we’re often traveling to weddings, and generally hustling pretty hard, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take steps to preserve the environment. In fact, just by supporting AMM, you’re well on your way!
One day, the couples we are marrying are going to have children, and the choices we make today will determine what sort of world they inherit.
On the civil advocacy front, Virginia Ministers ordained online routinely face difficulty and discrimination when attempting to comply with the states registration requirements. We disagree with this practice wholeheartedly, and consider it a violation of Virginia’s own laws, which grant these rights to all ministers, regardless of where they were ordained.
On our “Get Involved” page, we’ve got a letter you can download and send in to the state’s Division of Human Rights of the office of the Attorney General.
Here’s the best part -- we’re just getting started. If you think there’s a way we can work together to make our society more equitable and just, we want to hear about it! Let us know what you think, and stay in touch...
