A lot of people ask us, "How long does it take to become ordained?". Unlike most other religious institutions that require years of seminary study and many thousands of dollars, ordination through AMM is free and takes only minutes.
If you would like to know more about the reasons we offer free ordination and make it so simple, we encourage you to check out our About Us and Theological Doctrine pages.
The TLDR version is that we administer our ordinations to simplify the process of becoming a wedding officiant. We believe all people have the right to perform marriage. Our ordinations reflect this belief by being free, easy, and quick.
Once the application is successfully submitted and you are ordained as an AMM Minister, you are one step closer to having the legal authority to officiate weddings. In fact, in most states, our ordination is all you need to become a legal wedding officiant.
Regarding performing marriage, this segways into the slightly more involved question, "How long does it take to become a wedding officiant?".
This depends on the State in which you will be acting in the capacity as a wedding officiant. As stated above, in most states our ordination also gives you the legal authority to perform marriage without having to take any further steps with government agencies. However, a few states and localities do require you to complete required government paperwork before performing marriage.
The specific process varies from state to state and can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Before officiating any weddings it is critically important that you check and observe any required officiant registration requirements. We recommend that you check out our State Officiant Registration page for more information on the laws governing wedding officiant registration in your locality.
