Rock and roll and weddings will mix on stage in Oklahoma City this fall -- in the latest (and maybe loudest) answer to this year’s wedding boom.
Honeymoon Rock Fest, planned for Sept. 18th and 19th in the city’s Wheeler Park, will feature two stages and 20 popular bands. Couples will be invited up on stage between acts, to be married in front of a crowd of friends and music fans.
Musical guests include Eve 6, Saliva, Everclear, Sister Hazel, The Nixons, Living Colour, powerman 5000, Hoobastank, and others.
The festival is a creative response to a national surge in the demand for weddings, as thousands of couples clamor and compete for limited wedding dates and venues following over a year of postponements and cancellations caused by COVID-19. The rush in weddings has left both venues and vendors, including wedding officiants, struggling to keep up.
Friends, family members, (and apparently rock musicians!) are joining the ranks of officiant in order to help to perform unique in-demand ceremonies for their communities.
The festival will be open to the general public for day or weekend passes, and couples will be able to marry both on stage and off stage, in a nearby private ‘micro wedding’ setting.
(Details about wedding package costs, scheduling, and whether or not a couple will be able to choose their officiant aren’t available on the website yet.)
