As spiritual practices become more individualized and less restrictive in the US, many spiritual-but-not-religious people are choosing online ordination as a path toward personal enrichment and community leadership. This is especially true for those who wish to become spiritual wedding officiants, because getting ordained online is a simple and ethical way to meet the local legal requirements to perform weddings – without conforming to strict belief systems or religious requirements.
The path to spiritual ordination is unique from that of traditional denominations, because many people who are drawn to eclectic spirituality don't belong to a single, traditional church. This freedom to explore a personal connection with the divine (however you define it) means that there’s no one way to be a spiritual minister, and no one way to get ordained.
Similarly, spiritual weddings should reflect the unique, diverse couples they unite. There’s no standard spiritual wedding outline or script to follow, and no single correct way to get married. These couples deserve an officiant who can perform these weddings in a respectful and understanding way, without the restrictions or obligations of traditional weddings – a spiritual officiant who will draw from a mix of rituals and traditions to create a personalized wedding ceremony that’s both timeless and singular.
That’s why ordination and training that embraces these inclusive, individual, and vast spiritual practices is essential. And that’s where an inclusive spiritual organization like American Marriage Ministries comes in!

Without an accessible pathway to inclusive spiritual ordination, contemporary spiritual people might find it difficult to be legally recognized as clergy in the United States. Online ordination allows all spiritual people – from modern agnostics to spiritual atheists, deists to omnists, humanists to secular spiritualists, “nones” and “dones” and countless others – to officiate weddings and other important ceremonies for their like-minded communities.
American Marriage Ministries ordains people of all faiths and backgrounds, including spiritual but not religious (or not affiliated) folks, atheists, agnostics, and many others who agree to our church’s three guiding tenets:
As a federally-recognized 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization, we believe that what unites us as people isn’t if we pray, or who we pray to. What unites us is our shared humanity. This broad approach allows us to welcome ministers of any religious or nonreligious background who want to celebrate marriage, and to offer our ideological and spiritual support.
This universal acceptance is essential to one of our primary functions as a church: To ensure that all people have equal access to the benefits and protections of marriage, and the opportunity to celebrate the act of marriage with their friends, families, and communities in their own authentic way.
