Hundreds of couples gathered for a group ‘dream wedding’ party during ‘The Wedding: New York’s Biggest Day’ over the weekend – decked out in designer gowns, gorgeous suits, kilts, costumes, and other colorful looks.
The celebration was held in Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall, and was hosted by comedian and international entertainer Murray Hill. The evening included a pre-ceremony performance by Juilliard’s Alumni String Quartet; a one-of-a-kind processional and recessional lead by the Jina Brass Band; spectacular performances of Cheek to Cheek, Ave Maria, Almost Paradise, and other musical favorites; drinks and desserts in the park, and much more.
Between 500 and 700 couples are said to have attended. Although the ceremony wasn’t legally binding, many couples took the opportunity to renew their marriage vows or celebrate wedding anniversaries surrounded by other sweethearts. Engaged couples and newly-married couples also attended, eager to experience the thrill and spectacle of a big New York wedding bash without the price tag.
Saturday’s event was the second successful mass wedding party at Lincoln Park. Last year’s party, (Re)Wedding, in July of 2022, was created to combat the isolation, wedding delays, and grief that so many couples in New York City have experienced as a result of the COVID pandemic.
That event was so well received, that the city decided to keep the love going this year, and organizers hope that this will become an annual event that attracts couples from all over the country.
