If you recently conducted a Google search to learn more about American Marriage Ministries (AMM) and our free online ordination in order to officiate a wedding, you may have accidentally found yourself at the “AMM.org” instead of “theAMM.org.”
In fact, maybe that’s how you landed on this article!
But as you probably noticed, despite the similarity between these two web addresses, the organizations they represent are very different. The first address, “AMM.org” is the website for the “Association of the Miraculous Medal.” The second address, “TheAMM.org” is home to American Marriage Ministries – that’s where you are now!
This article clears up exactly what the Association of the Miraculous Medal is and isn’t, and gives advice about getting ordained online for aspiring wedding officiants.
Here at American Marriage Ministries, we’re very familiar with online ordination. We’ve ordained more than one million everyday people who went on to officiate weddings for their friends and family. If that’s what you’re looking for, you can just start the ordination process here. But we appreciate that you’re doing your research, and we want to help you make the right decision.
For starters, there are many churches that offer online ordination, but to the best of our knowledge, the “Association of the Miraculous Medal” (AMM.org) is not a church, and does not offer this service. Here’s why…
The “Association of the Miraculous Medal” is a Christian organization whose mission is grounded in Catholic principles, and seeks to “[bring] Jesus Christ to the world by inspiring devotion to Mary, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, through whom we unite ourselves in prayer to grow in holiness while supporting the apostolic mission and charitable work of our Vincentian priests and brothers.” (via Mission Statement) According to their website, they are a registered 501(c)3 organization located in Perryville, Missouri.
“Association of the Miraculous Medal” members are encouraged to wear or carry the ‘Miraculous Medal’ daily, and to join in regular prayer and other spiritual practices with one another. However, it does not appear that Association members are ordained clergy, or that the Association offers any ordination services.
In contrast, American Marriage Ministries is an inclusive nondenominational, interfaith church that provides free online ordination, minister training, and marriage equality advocacy for wedding officiants across the country. American Marriage Ministries is a federally registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and charitable organization, and ordains people from all faiths and backgrounds.
If you’d like to get ordained now to officiate a wedding for a friend or family member, you can complete American Marriage Ministries’ free ordination form here.
As you can see, although these two organizations – American Marriage Ministries (AMM) and Association of the Miraculous Medal (AMM) – have the same abbreviation, are both spiritual and faith-based organizations, and have similar web addresses, they provide very different services to their members.
