We’ve added a new wedding script to our library! Click the link below to read the full script:
If you find yourself at the altar a little sooner (or later) than expected… Why not have a little fun with it?
This unique ‘shotgun wedding’ script puts the couple’s pregnancy center stage in a playful way, with funny wedding vows and jokes about pregnancy hormones, late night baby feedings, hand-me-downs, and more!
Excerpt from the script:
Declaration of Intent & Funny Marriage Vows
OFFICIANT TO PARTNER A
"Do you [PARTNER A], take this gorgeous woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to live together in matrimony, to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, to support her dreams and take turns feeding the baby at night, and to cherish her from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?"
PARTNER A TO PARTNER B
"I do."
OFFICIANT TO PARTNER B
"Do you [PARTNER B] take this handsome man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to live together in matrimony, to love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, to buy him ‘Number 1 Dad’ mugs and laugh at his dad jokes, and to cherish him from this day forward, as long as you both shall live?"
PARTNER B TO PARTNER A
"I do."

There’s even a (non alcoholic) unity toast / unity shots ceremony, with guest participation: The soon-to-be-weds have their choice of non alcoholic options; we used sparkling cider in the script, but substitute punch, pomegranate juice, or your drink of choice. Guests can join in the toast from their seats, with a provided mini-bottle of something bubbly.
Although this officiant script is lighthearted, it’s grounded in sincerity. The officiant talks about the couple’s deep love and devotion, the meaning of the marriage and the importance of commitment, and the happy family and future the couple is building together.
So if you’re in love, knocked up, and on your way to the altar – this just might be the perfect wedding ceremony script!
Use it as is, or modify it with details from the couple’s love story, prayer or readings, music, and other special touches.
This wedding script is nonreligious and non denominational, with a mix of sincerity, sweetness, and humor. It’s a great choice for nontraditional couples, and can work for an expecting opposite-sex or LGBTQ+ couple with just a few adjustments.
Why is it called a shotgun wedding?
…
