Ex-clerk Kim Davis ordered to pay $100,000 to same-sex couple for violating their constitutional right to marry

A same-sex couple has been awarded $100,000 in damages after being denied a marriage license in 2015 by ex Kentucky clerk Kim Davis 

 

 

Remember when former county clerk Kim Davis refused to issue a marriage license to a gay couple in Kentucky in 2105? The couple, David Ermold and David Moore, sued her for violating their constitutional rights and won. 

 

This week, on Wednesday, the men were finally awarded damages by a federal jury in the amount of $50,000 each. This means that Davis is responsible for paying the couple, who are now happily married, a total of $100,000 (via The Messenger).

Davis’s legal representative, Mat Staver, said they will appeal the ruling in a higher court, but the Supreme Court has already denied one appeal by Davis, made in 2020 (via Associated Press, here and here).
