Tapes of Elmo’s long-standing feud with Rocco have re-surfaced recently, bringing much needed comedic relief to headlines, and immeasurable delight to pretty much everyone.
(Haven't seen the clip yet? We've included it below.)
AMM is no stranger to controversy, and we’re not afraid to pick sides. We stand behind Elmo a hundred percent. Rocco didn’t need that cookie. Have you ever seen a rock eat a cookie??
Look, we love Zoe’s imagination, and yeah, make-believe best friends are awesome, but, when it comes to cookies, we have to draw the line. (Rocco’s not even alive! )
To show our support of the muppet who says what everyone’s thinking, we’re dusting off a classic recording of that time Elmo totally kicked ass as the ring bearer in an iconic Sesame Street wedding.
Even though this was Elmo's first time participating in a wedding ceremony, he did an amazing job.
Luis and Maria's wedding day, 1988, Episode 2485 of Sesame Street
Will they or won't they? (They will!)
All the hot names from Sesame Street were there! Big Bird, Count von Count, Oscar the Grouch, Bert and Ernie, Cookie Monster, Grover, Herry Monster, The Two Headed Monster, Telly Monster, Tio José, Mrs. Figueroa, and countless others.
(Notice who wasn’t on the guest list? Rocco. We’re talking about Rocco.)
The ceremony opened with an adorable flower girl and boy, followed by a dramatic swell of organ music to begin the bridal procession. Although Maria and Luis both had moments of doubt and contemplated fleeing the rooftop ceremony, adding to the drama, (it’s either love or terror! ), in the end they took their vows and it was a truly beautiful ceremony.
Oh, and we loved seeing the ASL interpreter at this wedding. There are lots of ways to make your wedding ceremony more accessible to guests and family members with disabilities!
Best of all? Elmo did not drop the rings.
Elmo is a great ring bearer.
Elmo loses it over Rocco, and we don't blame him.

Officiant to Reception:
“We are here today to celebrate the marriage of Maria and Luis. When two people get married, what they do is make a promise to each other. Luis and Maria are making a promise today, a promise to share their lives together, a promise to help one another, and care for each other, and love each other for the rest of their lives. They are celebrating this promise in front of you – the people they love most – their friends and their family."
Officiant to Luis:
"Luis, do you take Maria to be your wife, in good times and bad, to love her and care for her always?"
Luis:
"I do."
Officiant to Maria:
"Do you, Maria, take Luis to be your husband, in good times and bad, to love him and care for him always?"
Maria:
"I do."
(Elmo passes Bob the rings, whispering “Don’t drop the rings, Bob.” Bob then passes the rings to Luis and Maria. Luis and Maria exchange rings.)
Officiant to Maria and Luis:
"I now pronounce you husband and wife."
(Big Bird yells “Yay!” from the crowd. Luis and Maria kiss.)
