Chiderah and Deidre decided to get married after realizing that, although they weren’t a romantic couple, they had found in each other someone to build a life with.
They’d been close friends and living as roommates in Canada when the COVID-19 lockdown started in their city. Soon they were spending hours together, talking and walking, and something just clicked for the two of them.
“It was in that moment I saw myself and I saw our lives flash before my eyes and I said 'this is the person I want to build a life with,'” Chiderah told reporters at Metro.co.uk.
The feeling was mutual. When Chiderah proposed to Deidre, they knew it was the right fit. “For both of us, romance has always subtracted more than it has added to our lives,” Deidre told reporters, “so we’ve been in this relationship and we’re so happy.”
Deidre adds, “The depth of our relationship transcends romance for sure.”
The best friends are free to pursue romantic relationships outside of their platonic marriage, and their bond gives them the security and stability they’d been looking for. They share a bank account, household responsibilities, meals, a rich and happy partnership, and other securities that conventional marriage provides.
