Charities We’re Supporting This Month

Published Tuesday, Oct. 20th, 2020

American Marriage Ministries is an IRS Certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our objective is to make the world a better place - not get rich. In addition to pursuing our mission in providing free online ordinations, we believe it’s important to support other nonprofits.

Each month, we donate to organizations that align with our values so that we can help to contribute to society at large, beyond granting people the authority to perform marriage. This includes support for the arts, music, and theater, environmental advocacy and research, and news and education.

This month, AMM made charitable donations to four inspirational organizations:

  • Karamu House in Cleveland, OH
  • Keep Music Live in Washington State
  • Ocean Conservancy based in D.C.
  • KUOW public radio and news in Seattle, WA

We believe in the values and visions of these organizations, and are proud to help support the work they do. Find out more about each one below!

Karamu House was founded in 1915 in Cleveland and is recognized as the country’s oldest, producing African American theatre. ‘Karamu’ means ‘a place of joyful gathering’ in Swahili, and the theatre offers a place “where people from different races, religions, and economic backgrounds come together through the arts.” They produce quality live theatre and online streaming productions, and provide arts education, an art gallery, and community gathering spaces, while honoring the African American experience.

Keep Music Live is a fundraising campaign (supported by the Whatcom Community Foundation) organized by live music lovers in the Northwest. Keep Music Live offers financial support to the small, hometown and community-based music venues closed by COVID 19. These venues and their musicians and staff are a vital part of the Washington economy, at the very heart of the Northwest, and are high risk of permanent closure. Keep Music Live hopes to raise $10 million to provide critical financial support to local venues.

Ocean Conservancy helps to protect and transform our oceans by investing in research, leadership, and environmental advocacy. They have several programs, focused on combating threats like climate change and ocean acidification, and on preserving and restoring regions like the Gulf of Mexico, the Arctic, coastal Florida, and other endangered ocean habitats. With Ocean Conservancy’s help, we can all help protect our oceans.

KUOW is a publicly funded radio station providing independent local and national news and culture to listeners across the Puget Sound region, and is a local partner for NPR. KUOW offers fact-based news and analysis, engaging personal stories from the region, and hosts a large variety of podcasts. The station also gives back to the community through a variety of programs, including RadioActive Youth Media, which helps young people claim their voice through youth journalism and media making. Almost all of KUOW’s funding - 90%, in fact - comes from the local community.
