It’s hard to find the right words to express the boundless love you feel for each other, in any language…
So why not leave it up to one of the best poets to ever put pen to paper? Pablo Neruda!
This bilingual wedding ceremony script contains a famous sonnet by Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, with verses in English and the original Spanish to perfectly capture the excitement and passion of true love.
From Sonnet 17:
“Te amo como la planta que no florece y lleva
dentro de sí, escondida, la luz de aquellas flores,
y gracias a tu amor vive oscuro en mi cuerpo
el apretado aroma que ascendió de la tierra.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you directly without problems or pride:
I love you that way because I don't know how to love in any other way”
The ceremony begins with a heartfelt welcome and invocation from the wedding officiant, written in English and Spanish, followed by a few words on the foundation of a loving marriage.
‘We do’ style wedding vows and a simple ring exchange create a feeling of togetherness and shared adventure, followed by a sweet reading of Neruda’s Sonnet 17. You and your partner will read the poem aloud together, in alternating ‘dueling’ stanzas, to emphasize the give and take of your relationship, the flow of love between you, and your unbreakable connection.
This script follows a basic wedding ceremony outline, closing with a blessing from the wedding officiant for happiness, a healthy family, and loving strength.
Customize each of these sections with details from your own love story to create a unique and authentic experience. Add your own custom written vows, or use the romantic pre-written vows we’ve included.
From the script:
“_______ and _______, before today, you each walked a separate path. Now, you embark together on a shared path. As you become a family, remember: It is the strength of your love that shall nourish you all together.
Su amor por el otro, por los hijos que puedan tener, por las generaciones de las que provienen y que puedan crear, y por todos sus amigos y familiares - es el amor lo que los alimentará.”
This script is sweet, simple, and non religious, and perfect for couples who want to center their wedding ceremony around the love they share and their dreams for the future.
