Who Can Officiate Weddings in Puerto Rico?
The Puerto Rico Marriage Laws specify who can legally perform marriage in the State. The legal term for the act of conducting a wedding ceremony is called "Solemnization of Marriage". The people with the authority to perform this act are religious and government officials. For most Americans, getting ordained is the easiest way to gain the legal right to solemnize weddings.
According to the New Civil Code of Puerto Rico § 392
"They can authorize the marriage: (a) Representatives of any religion who are accredited by their congregation to do so; (b) notaries admitted to practice their profession in Puerto Rico; (c) the judges of the General Court of Justice of Puerto Rico; (d) the judges and magistrates of the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico; and (e) the judges of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit."
