American Marriage Ministries has decided to join many other businesses in the #StopHateForProfit campaign by boycotting Facebook ads, suspending all advertising campaigns on Facebook and Instagram through July.
“Social media has allowed hate and extremism to spread faster and further than ever before, which causes real harm to real people. Every day, our organizations are alerted to numerous examples of hate and misinformation across Facebook's products, which are supported by paid advertisements.”
Facebook generates nearly $70 billion a year in advertising revenue. And though AMM may be a small organization - a drop in the bucket, if you will - we were founded upon clear principles of tolerance and respect, and we cannot continue to support a platform that openly condones divisive and contentious behavior within society.
American Marriage Ministries implores Facebook, Inc. to stop profiting from hateful content, and to stop enabling racism, violence, hate speech, and the spread of misinformation.
Note:
While we are halting our advertising campaigns with Facebook and Instagram, we realize that these platforms are some of the easiest ways to maintain open lines of communication with our valued Ministers, friends and family. As such, we will continue to utilize Facebook and Instagram to connect with our communities to share content that is informative and empowering.
