As early as next month, couples in Dallas County may be able to apply for their marriage license online – including a virtual visit with the county clerk!
The updated process will be made possible by new software contracted by the County Commissioners, and coveted by County Clerk John Warren.
“It’s my goal to virtualize as many of my processes as I possibly can, so that we can continue to serve the citizens of Dallas County,” County Clerk Warren told The Dallas Morning News.
Warren explained that many services provided by the Clerk’s Office were delayed or paused during the pandemic, and that moving them online may help avoid similar slowdowns in the future.
Officials predict the new online service will be available as early as February. This means that couples may have less than a month to wait before they’ll be able to apply to marry from the comfort of their own homes.

The total cost of applying for a marriage license online in Dallas County will be $92, including the additional fee. Couples who prefer an in-person appointment will still need to begin the application process online, and can expect to pay around $82. (Out of state applicants may be charged an additional fee.)
Couples have 90 days to use a marriage license in Texas once it’s been issued. The license must be signed by an authorized wedding officiant and a witness, and returned within 30 days following the wedding ceremony.
Officials say that nearly 20,000 couples marry in Dallas County each year, an area which includes about 2.5 million residents in the cities of Dallas, Irving, Garland, Grand Prarie, Mesquite, Denton, Carrollton, Richardson, Lewisville, Desoto, Wylie, and others.
