I became ordained because I was privileged and trusted with the opportunity to be the Wedding Officiant at a best friend's wedding. There is a performance factor when it comes down to these things, and I am no stranger to performing with my performing arts background, yoga instruction, and love for karaoke. Emotions run high, and I look at it as a challenge to reel all of it in and bring people to the moment to focus on the two individuals gracing us with their commitment. I love to speak to the couple about how they view their relationship and each other as well as discuss any expectations they may have regarding the ceremony. Of course, those getting married take priority, but I love to bring the same approach to people the couple cares about: the parents, family members, or friends. I find that doing this has provided comfort during a stressful time -- the planning of a Wedding. When the Minister is putting in the work on their part, it gives a sense of ease for at least one part of the process. Combining all the things I have been privileged to learn about, by speaking to the couple and their loved ones, allows me the option to incorporate personal stories or meaningful quotes during the ceremony. I will use what I've learned to write a personal Blessing to make the ceremony more your own. I find it makes everyone feel more involved and a more intimate setting is achieved.
