New Mexico Statutes Annotated 40-1-16

Application of law.

A. A child born to parents who are not married to each other has the same rights pursuant to the law as a child born to parents who are married to each other. B. Nothing in Chapter 40, Article 1 NMSA 1978 shall be construed to in any manner interfere with the records kept by any civil magistrate, religious society, church organization or federally recognized Indian nation, tribe or pueblo or with any additional form of ceremony, regulation or requirement prescribed by them.
