I got ordained with AMM for two reasons. The first was I had a couple of friends who came up to me and were unable to find a minister to marry them due to being in a very small country town and them not fitting the typical acceptance social norms. I feel if two people are truly in love they don't need to have anything separate them. Secondly, and a little bit more close to home for me, my grandfather was a minister. He never got to see me get ordained but it's a way of being a little bit closer to him and my adult life.
