Officiated by Sean Patrick Kelley at Windsor Estates Assisted Living in New Middletown, Ohio on April 4th, 2020.
"This was my first, and probably most unique, wedding to officiate. The groom, Harold Patrick Kelley Jr. is my father. The bride, his last girlfriend in high school before meeting my mom. Harold searched for Lorrie the past few years, even looking up her name and her father's name to no avail. Through mutual friends, they were able to find each other again after so many years. After reconnecting the past year or so, they knew it was meant to be. They set a date, booked a venue and invited friends and family. Then... Coronavirus! Like so many other couples during this global pandemic, they were unable to move forward with their plans as scheduled. Having luckily secured their marriage license before the state closed its Probate Courts, and wanting to maintain their original date, they planned on an outdoor wedding with less than 10 people in total being there, per Governor Mike DeWine's order. However, Governor DeWine also put nursing home and assisted living centers on lock-down. No residents out and no visitors in. Harold's mother, Christine Kelley was residing at Windsor Estates Assisted Living Center in New Middletown, OH. Having her be present and witness the wedding was of the utmost importance to both Harold and Lorrie. After working with Kim, the director of the Assisted Living Facility, they arranged to be wed just outside a set of glass doors in order for Chris to witness the wedding while listening over a cellphone to hear the ceremony. Some other notable attendees included a "video chat" with Lorrie's sister in England, a video chat with another of Lorrie's sisters in Florida. In person were Shannon Kelley and boyfriend, Steve, Katie Graham, Betsy McCoy, and Starr Kelley (Sean's wife). Also in attendance was WFMJ-Channel 21 news from Youngstown, Ohio. A single employee to interview and video the "heartwarming sight". The video of the wedding, with interviews with Harold, Lorrie, and myself are available on WFMJ's website and will be available for all to see at: https://www.wfmj.com/story/41973794/92-year-old-mother-watches-sons-wedding-from-nursing-home Of my future weddings to host, I don't know that any will hold a place in my heart quite like marrying my father, amidst a global pandemic, with my 92 year old grandma able to be a part of it. WELCOME/GREETING SECTION:
Welcome everyone. Harold and Lorrie have chosen you, those special and important to them, to witness and celebrate the beginning of their life together. Today, as they join in marriage, they also create a new bond and new sense of family - one that will undoubtedly include all who are present here today.
READING SECTION:
Harold and Lorrie, remember to treat yourselves and each other with respect, and remind yourselves often of what brought you together. Take responsibility for making the other feel safe, and give the highest priority to the tenderness, gentleness and kindness that your connection deserves. When frustration, difficulty and fear assail your relationship, as they threaten all relationships at some time or another, remember to focus on what is right between you, and not just the part that seems wrong. If each of you takes responsibility for the quality of your life together and compassion for the needs of the other, your life together will be marked by abundance and delight.
VOWS SECTION:
Harold and Lorrie will now share their vows.
Harold, please repeat after me.
"I Harold Kelley, take you Lorrie Graham to be my wife,
my partner in life and my one true love.
I will cherish our union
and love you more each day than I did the day before.
I will trust you and respect you,
laugh with you and cry with you,
loving you faithfully through good times and bad,
regardless of the obstacles we may face together.
I give you my hand, my heart, and my love,
from this day forward for as long as we both shall live."
Lorrie, please repeat after me.
"I Lorrie Graham, take you Harold Kelley to be my husband,
my partner in life and my one true love.
RING EXCHANGE SECTION:
Harold and Lorrie will now exchange rings as a symbol of their love and commitment.
"This ring is my promise to accept your imperfections
and appreciate all that makes you unique and beautiful."
