ABOUT THIS WEDDING

"This wedding was performed on the postpartum unit at Women’s and Babies’ Hospital. This lovely young couple had planned to get married and had their marriage license all ready but her water broke on the way to the courthouse. When the labor nurses heard this story they told the couple that I had just recently been ordained and that if they asked, I might marry them. So, I walked in to see them the next morning and was promptly accosted by the father of the baby to please, please, please marry them. He explained that they had waited so long because they were saving up their money for the baby. I said “Sure!” So he called his mother to bring her a pretty dress and come to the hospital quick because they were gonna get married by the midwife! Sure enough his mother showed up with that pretty blue dress. I asked if they had rings and he hung his head and said no but his mother pulled a ring out of her pocket and handed it to him saying that it had been his aunt’s and he couldn’t get married without giving Marlana a ring (marlana was in the bathroom for this conversation). So, we rounded up a couple of nurses for witnesses and began the ceremony. When I asked Joe if he had the ring, Marlana began to say that they didn’t have any rings but then Joe began digging in his pocket. Her jaw dropped and her eyes widened in surprise and happiness. He slipped the ring on her finger and “Voila!” They were married! It was really sweet!"
