Deniz and Melanie,

This new journey will be at times richly rewarding and extremely difficult, but, most importantly, it will be a journey you take together. Marriage is much more than your signatures on a legal contract. You are promising, and have asked all of these people you love to watch you make this promise, that you want to be with each other and only each other for the rest of your lives, and that you will do everything in your power to honor the promises you are making here today.

For both of you, you have had the chance to experience your lives together, this year marks 10 years and you have learned what it means to love one another. Through good times and bad times, I have had the honor and privilege to witness how the both of you have learned how to coexist as a couple. Getting married today is only one small quick step towards the meaning of true marriage. Marriage is not just putting on a beautiful dress, or a nice suit. It isn't about having a big party, celebrating with friends and family, or partying to the late hours of the night. All those things are what a wedding is about, but marriage... marriage is about the continued learning of not just living together as a couple of two separate lives, but living your lives as one complete life. Let nothing stand in the way of your marriage. The success of the longevity of your marriage rests upon you. To honor your spouse, to support your better half in their ambitions, to always stay true to one another.

To experience love is so incredible, words fail us when we try and explain it. And even though we describe love in different ways, we all know it, when we see it. “And we see it here”. You fell in love by chance, but you're here today because you're making a choice. You both are choosing each other. You've chosen to be with someone who enhances you, who makes you think, makes you smile, and makes every day brighter. You're about to make promises to each other that you intend to keep. You're going to vow to take care of each other, to stand up for one another, and find happiness in the other. There's a simple premise to each of these promises: you're vowing to be there. You're teaming up and saying to one another, "Every experience I am going to have, I want you to be a part of."

Deniz and Melanie you have chosen to write your own vows, and it is with these words you express your binding promises to love, honor, and cherish one another. If you are ready to make these promises to each other I invite you now to face each other and declare your intentions.

Deniz when you are ready, please begin:

Deniz as you place this ring on Melanie’s finger, I now ask you: do you take Melanie to be your wife, promising to love her, comfort, honor, respect, and care for her for all the days of your life?

“I do.”

Melanie, do you take Deniz, to be your husband, promising to love him, comfort, honor, respect, and care for him for the all the days of your life?

“I do.”

Ladies and Gentleman,

Deniz and Melanie have given consent and made their marriage vows to each other. They have declared their marriage by the joining of hands and by giving and receiving of rings.

Before I pronounce you as husband and wife, I have one more thing I want you to do. Your wedding day is one that seems to fly. It’s a day filled with emotion, friends, rings, and dances. Many people remember how fleeting their own wedding day was. So I want you to take a few seconds for you to look into each other’s eyes. Think about the happiness you’re feeling in this moment. Really let that feeling register in your hearts and your minds. Now, I want you to think about your life together in 20 years. Where are you? What are you doing? We all know that your visions of the future are not identical, but always complimentary. Melanie, while we are gathered here today, we know someone special is missing. Your father cannot be with us today but he is looking down on you. Try to remember all the great memories that you and your father shared. Like how he loved to jam out on the dashboard of his car. He was someone who loved listening to the Beatles. And it was John Lennon who once said “A dream you dream alone is only a dream, a dream you dream together, THAT is reality.” Deniz and Melanie that reality starts today.

On a personal note, it has been an honor to stand in front of the both of you this morning and officiate your vows.
