Wedding Ceremony for Devin & Jessica
Opening
Good afternoon, everyone.
Before we begin, I think we have to acknowledge the obvious.
When Devin and Jessica planned today, they planned for a beautiful ceremony under a tent.
As many of you know, the rain had other ideas.
In fact, the rain didn’t just show up—it completely destroyed the tent.
But maybe that’s fitting.
Because marriage isn’t built when everything goes exactly according to plan.
It’s built when plans change, challenges show up unexpectedly, and two people choose each other anyway.
The rain may have taken down the tent, but it couldn’t touch the foundation that brought us all here today.
The real foundation of a marriage isn’t canvas and poles. It’s trust. It’s friendship. It’s commitment. It’s family. It’s love.
And looking around this room today, it’s easy to see that Devin and Jessica have all of those things in abundance.
Some people say rain on a wedding day is good luck. Whether that’s true or not, rain reminds us of something important:
Growth requires both sunshine and rain.
No marriage experiences only sunny days. There will be seasons of celebration and seasons of challenge. Moments of certainty and moments of doubt.
The strongest marriages aren’t built because the sun shines every day. They’re built because two people learn to weather every storm together.
And while the sun may not be shining outside today, there is more than enough sunshine in this room to warm, support, and help build a beautiful marriage.
Today we gather to celebrate Devin and Jessica, two people who found not only love, but friendship, peace, happiness, and a partner to share life’s adventures with.
When asked to describe their relationship in three words, they chose:
Peaceful. Happy. Considerate.
And those three words tell us everything we need to know about why we’re here today.
When asked to describe their relationship in three words, they chose:
Peaceful. Happy. Considerate.
Those three words tell a lot about who they are together.
Jessica shared that Devin brought peace and calm to her life, while also bringing excitement and adventure. She spoke about feeling accepted, supported, and loved through some of life’s most difficult moments.
Devin shared that everything seemed to flow naturally with Jessica from the very beginning. He admires her for being understanding, caring, and a wonderful mother and role model for her boys.
Together, they’ve learned that love means being able to ask for what you need and knowing your partner wants to give that support freely.
They’ve learned that love is not about keeping score.
It’s about showing up.
It’s about choosing each other.
And it’s about building a life together with your best friend.
When asked what they’re most excited about in marriage, their answers weren’t about a wedding day.
They were about the future.
More adventures.
More time together.
Building a life side by side.
And always having each other to come home to.
Devin and Jessica, please join hands.
Today you are surrounded by the people who love you most. They are here to witness the promises you are about to make and to celebrate the life you are choosing to build together.
Declaration of Intent
Devin, do you take Jessica to be your wife, your partner, and your best friend? Do you promise to love her, support her, and stand beside her through all of life’s adventures?
I do.
Jessica, do you take Devin to be your husband, your partner, and your best friend? Do you promise to love him, support him, and stand beside him through all of life’s adventures?
I do.
Ring Exchange
These rings are a symbol of the promises being made today and a reminder of the commitment you share.
Devin, please place the ring on Jessica’s finger and repeat after me:
“With this ring, I choose you.
Today, tomorrow, and always.
As my partner,
my best friend,
and my love.”
