Officiated by Michael Ray Davis at Drake University Johansen Center in Des Moines, Iowa on May 30th, 2026. Witnessed by Best Man and Maid of Honor.
"May 30th was a beautiful day, the bride and groom were excited, nervous and ultimately happy with the ceremony. I was honored to be asked to officiate their wedding."
Officiant:
“Welcome, family and friends. We are gathered here today to celebrate the love and commitment between [Partner 1] and [Partner 2]. This is a moment of joy, unity, and the joining of two lives into one shared journey. Please silence your cell phones, and please be mindful of the photographer, who is capturing this wonderful event."
Opening Prayer (Non-Denominational)
Officiant:
“Let us take a moment to center ourselves.
We give thanks for this day, for the love that has brought us together, and for the presence of those who support and cherish [Partner 1] and [Partner 2].
May this ceremony be filled with meaning, sincerity, and hope.
May the commitment made here today be strengthened by patience, kindness, and understanding.
And may the love shared between these two continue to grow, guiding them through all of life’s seasons.
Amen.”
Reflection on Love & Marriage
Officiant:
“Marriage is not simply the joining of two people, but the blending of two lives, two stories, and two futures. It is built on trust, respect, laughter, and the choice to stand beside one another through both the calm and the storm. At this time, we will have a reading by a family member.
Reading: Poem
Today, Brandon and Katie choose not only to love each other, but to build a life together—one grounded in unity and strengthened by their individuality.”
Unity Sand Ceremony Explanation
Officiant:
“At this time, Brandon and Katie will take part in a unity sand ceremony.
Each of them holds a container of sand, representing their individual lives—their experiences, families, and everything that has shaped who they are. As they pour their sand into a single vessel, the grains will blend together, just as their lives will be joined.
Once combined, the sand cannot be separated, symbolizing the lasting and inseparable bond they are creating today.”
Unity Sand Pouring
(Couple pours sand together into one container)
Officiant (optional during pouring):
“Just as these grains of sand come together and cannot be divided, so too will your lives be forever intertwined—unique, beautiful, and stronger together.”
Exchange of Personal Vows
Officiant:
“Brandon and Katie, you have chosen to write your own vows as a reflection of your love and commitment.
Brandon, please share your vows.”
Brandon's Vows
Officiant:

Ring Exchange
Officiant:
“May we have the rings?
These rings are a symbol of eternity—without beginning or end—and a visible reminder of the promises you make today.”
(Each partner repeats)
“I give you this ring as a symbol of my love and commitment. I promise to stand beside you, today and always.”
Declaration of Marriage
Officiant:
“By the promises you have made, and the love you have shared here today, it is my honor to recognize you as partners in marriage.
You may seal your vows with a kiss.”
Closing Blessing
Officiant:
“May your life together be filled with laughter, compassion, and adventure.
May you always find strength in each other and peace in your shared journey.
And may your love continue to grow deeper with each passing day.
It is my great joy to present to you, for the first time, Brandon and Katie Soper!”
