Nikah Ceremony Script (Editable Template)

Welcome, family, friends, and loved ones.

Please take your seats. Today, we gather before Allah and in your presence to join Adja Soukeyna Ndoye and Amadou Ndoye in marriage. The Quran teaches that signing the Nikah is the essential step for marriage, and Adja and Amadou have chosen to do this today. Together, we witness their promise and support their journey in faith.

The Quran shares the story of creation, which gives meaning to the commitment we witness today. When Allah created the first man and woman, He saw that the man was alone and needed a companion. The Quran says:

“It is He Who created you from a single person, and made his mate of like nature, so that he might dwell with her in love.” (7:189)

This reminds us that Adja and Amadou are joining not only one another, but also a sacred tradition that spans thousands of years. Faith and witness unite us today, and so does the promise they are making—one shared across cultures, histories, and continents. They are committing to support one another in faith as they grow together.

Adja, Amadou the promise you make today comes from an ancient tradition and a sacred history. You make it before Allah and before these witnesses. It is a sacred trust built on love, responsibility, and mercy—a trust for you to keep, protect, and honor.

The Meher

With that in mind, we now begin with the Meher, which starts with the groom’s gift to the bride. Today, this gift is a ring.

The tradition of exchanging rings is ancient and universal, symbolizing unbroken unity and eternal commitment. Following tradition, Adja will give the ring to Amadou as a sign of his promise to care for her and respect her freedom in their marriage.

Amadou, you are about to enter a sacred agreement with Adja in the presence of Allah, your loved ones, and me as a witness.

Will you give her this ring as a sign of your promise to honor and care for her, and as a symbol of her freedom as your wife?

Amadou: “I do.”

The Mutual Pledge

After this symbolic act, we move to the next step.

In front of Allah and these witnesses, are you ready to pledge yourselves to each other?

Groom:

“I, Amadou, offer myself to you, Adja, in marriage, bound by the Holy Quran and the Prophet’s instructions, peace and blessings be upon him. I pledge to be your honest and faithful partner, both obedient and loyal.”

Bride:

“Amadou, I Adja promise myself, honestly and sincerely, to be your faithful and helpful partner.”

Reflections on Marriage

As we have discussed, marriage is a sacred tradition in the eyes of Allah. It is part of His design and purpose for humanity. Today’s promise reflects Allah’s teaching that we are not meant to be alone.

The partnership between Amadou and Adja presents an opportunity to demonstrate patience, respect, and kindness. It asks them to forgive quickly, to let go of grudges, and to treat one another with mercy.

These values—love, faith, and trust—are the foundation of a lasting marriage.

Love carries you through hardship and makes joy even sweeter.

Faith guides you to what is right and strengthens you in difficulty.

Trust opens the heart, allowing honesty, vulnerability, and mutual growth.

Trust begins with faith, and deepens through small, daily acts of care.

Pronouncement

By the laws of Allah and the authority vested in me by American Marriage Ministries and the State of Michigan,

I now pronounce you husband and wife!

Takbir!

May your marriage always be blessed with faith, love, and Allah’s guidance.

May you walk this new path together, supported by your community and your shared devotion to one another.
