Welcome, grandparents, parents, and friends. We are gathered here to celebrate the union of Devin and Alex. Each of us has had a role in helping them along the path that has led to this joyous occasion. Whether as a family member or friend - we have had the incredible privilege of playing a part in Devin and Alex's lives—our influence has touched not only their individual journeys, but also their journey together, and we celebrate with them as they now join their lives, forever.

I ask you to pledge your continued love and support as Devin and Alex enter this new adventure. Let us—together—nurture, advise and console them, celebrating each achievement and standing with them during challenging times.

I would like to take a moment to remember Alex's grandmother, Carole. I know she is incredibly missed, especially on momentous occasions such as this. Carole and Alex have a very special bond and Devin also has a special place in his heart for her, too. Carole supported Devin and Alex's relationship from day one. I know she is here in spirit smiling and cheering Alex and Devin both on, as she did so many times from the bleachers back in high school where their love for each other began.

Devin and Alex welcome to your wedding! I am thrilled for the life that you are creating together and for your marriage which begins right now. You have discovered each other, made the conscious decision of commitment, and today you step over the threshold into the first day of the rest of your officially-declared shared life.

Your story together started 10 years ago, today, when you were only 15 years-old. I know most of us remember your early days together by the change in the sparkle of your eyes and how your smiles grew just a bit wider when you were together. You both knew from the beginning there was something very special about your love for one another. You each offered the other the space to explore the things in life you were passionate about and supported each other through your successes, as well as your failures. This allowed you to grow as individuals, but also grow together in love and trust - in a safe haven. Often when a couple meets so young, as they mature and become who they are as adults, they are no longer compatible. Although your relationship was not without growing pains, you were both committed to work hard, communicate honestly, and lead with love when you were met with struggle. These are the exact strengths in character that are necessary to hold the bond of marriage over a lifetime. Today, as you take this leap together, you have the knowledge that only experience offers and can trust that the other has not only the intension, but the drive and understanding of how to honor the vows you make today throughout the coming years. This is rare, and a gift you give to each other freely.
