Dearly Beloved and Honored Guests,
We are gathered here today in the presence of family, friends, and God to witness and bless the union of Jos T Thomas and Anna Elizabeth McElhinney in marriage.
Marriage is one of life’s greatest gifts — a sacred bond that calls two people to walk forward together, not as they once were, but as one. It is a covenant rooted in love, strengthened by trust, and sustained by grace.
This union is not to be entered into lightly, but thoughtfully and seriously, with a deep understanding of its joys, its challenges, and its responsibilities. Marriage asks for patience when life is difficult, gratitude when life is abundant, and faith — in one another and in something greater — when the road ahead is uncertain.
In the Catholic tradition, love is not merely a feeling, but a daily choice: to show up, to remain faithful, to forgive, and to grow. It is through love, loyalty, and understanding that a marriage becomes not just enduring, but life-giving — a home built on compassion, laughter, and shared purpose.
Jos and Anna, today you stand before us not because your journey will be perfect, but because you have chosen each other — fully, freely, and with intention. May your love be a reflection of patience and kindness, a source of strength in times of hardship, and a wellspring of joy in times of celebration.
At this time, Jos T Thomas and Anna Elizabeth McElhinney will share their vows.
(Vows)
Jos T Thomas,
Do you take this woman, Anna Elizabeth McElhinney, to be your lawfully wedded partner, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in good times and in woe, for richer or poorer, keeping yourself unto her for as long as you both shall live?
(Wait for confirmation)
Anna Elizabeth McElhinney,
Do you take this man, Jos T Thomas, to be your lawfully wedded partner, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in good times and in woe, for richer or poorer, keeping yourself unto him for as long as you both shall live?
(Wait for confirmation)
These wedding rings are a symbol of unending love — a circle without beginning or end — reminding us that marriage is not only a promise made today, but a commitment renewed each day. Jos T Thomas and Anna Elizabeth McElhinney will now exchange rings as a symbol of their love and commitment.
(Ring Exchange)
May these rings be a constant reminder of the vows you have spoken, the love you share, and the life you now build together.
Before we conclude, let us pause for a brief prayer.
Let us pray.
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of love we have witnessed today.
Bless Jos and Anna as they begin their life together.
Grant them patience in moments of challenge, joy in moments of abundance,
and faith to walk side by side through all seasons of life.
May their home be filled with peace, kindness, and grace,
and may their love always reflect Your presence.
Amen.
And now, by the authority vested in me by American Marriage Ministries and the State of Illinois,
I now pronounce you husband and wife, Jos T Thomas and Anna Thomas.
