Officiant Speech

Welcome everyone and on behalf of Carly and Drew, thank you for being here today. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Michelle, the very proud sister of the groom and, as of 2025, your official wedding officiant. Feel free to DM me for all your future officiant needs.

When my little brother asked me to officiate his wedding, I had two immediate thoughts. One: “Wow, what an honor.” And two: “How long can I get away with roasting him? The latter being the reason this ceremony will be an hour plus.

But in all honesty, it’s such a privilege to stand here, as Drew’s sister, and Carly’s future sister-in-law, and be a part of this incredible moment.

Being the oldest, I’ve known Drew his whole life. The beginning was a bit rough, and we learned early on that he could not handle M&Ms or wield any type of tools at a young age. But, I’ve seen him navigate life’s challenges with strength, integrity, and kindness. I’ve also seen him become a better person because of the love and support he’s received, especially from the woman standing across from him today.

Carly, thank you for loving my brother, for seeing the amazing man he is, and for laughing at his jokes even when they don’t deserve it. You’ve become family in every way, and I couldn’t ask for a better sister.

A quick little blurb on love from a card that I am sure our mom forgot she gave to me: Love takes time. Love involves careful and active listening. Love is on a constant journey to each other's needs. It must be attentive, caring, and open, both to what you say and to what you cannot say. Love is a choice, and a commitment. It is dedication. Love is not selfish. Love realizes and accepts that there will be disagreements and high emotions. Sometimes, love hurts and it is hard. But love, true love, will accept and endure all things. Love is what I see here today.

Together, you two are a perfect mix of calm and chaos, laughter and comfort, sleeping in and “let’s go hiking at 5am.” You balance each other, challenge each other, and most importantly — you make each other better. I know you both have found your person.

Today, as you stand here together and commit to a lifetime of love, partnership, and growth, I want to remind you, from all of my personal experience, that marriage is a beautiful journey. It’s about choosing each other - on the best days, on the hardest days, and every ordinary day in between. Love isn’t perfect, but it’s perfectly yours. Carly, I hope you enjoy growing old with Drew as much as I enjoyed growing up with him.

So, Drew and Carly, as you exchange vows, know that we are all here cheering for you, even those who couldn’t be here physically with us today, and wishing you a life filled with happiness, adventure, and above all, unwavering love.
