Isabelle Lehman And Jesse Gates’ Wedding Wedding Ceremony Script

Jesse & Isabelle’s Wedding

Good evening, everyone, and welcome. We gather here under open skies and full hearts to witness and support the union of Jesse and Isabelle.

On behalf of the couple, thank you for being here. Your presence is a reminder that love does not exist in isolation. It grows stronger in the presence of community, of chosen family, of people who hold space for each other and show up for life’s most important moments.

Today is one of those moments. Not just a celebration, but a declaration – a shared breath of intention. Isabelle and Jesse stand before you not just to make a promise, but to make that promise witnessed, and shared. This is not a performance. It’s a deeply personal choice made visible, surrounded by love.

To honor the significance of this union, we’ll begin with a reading from the Supreme Court decision Obergefell v. Hodges. These words affirm not just a legal right, but a timeless truth:

“From their beginning to their most recent page, the annals of human history reveal the transcendent importance of marriage.

Marriage is sacred to those who live by their religions and offers unique fulfillment to those who find meaning in the secular realm.

Its dynamic allows two people to find a life that could not be found alone, for a marriage becomes greater than just the two persons.

Rising from the most basic human needs, marriage is essential to our most profound hopes and aspirations.

The centrality of marriage to the human condition makes it unsurprising that the institution has existed for millennia and across civilizations.

Since the dawn of history, marriage has transformed strangers into relatives, binding families and societies together.

No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family.

In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than they once were.”

And now Jesse and Isabelle, the time has come to share your vows – the promises that reflect your bond, your values, and your hopes for the life you are building hand-in-hand, heart-forward.

To Jesse/Isabel

______, please share your vows.

(They read them)

______, please share your vows.

(They read them)

Thank you both. What you’ve spoken here is more than words. It’s a thread of intention, woven between you. A promise not made in passing, but in presence.

Now, let’s listen to one more passage – one close to Jesse and Isabelle’s hearts - from The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman. It speaks to the kind of love that exists not only in storybooks, but in the quiet, everyday rhythms of a life shared.

“I will love you forever; whatever happens.

Till I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead, I’ll drift about forever, all my atoms, till I find you again… I’ll be looking for you, every moment, every single moment.

And when we do find each other again, we’ll cling together so tight that nothing and no one’ll ever tear us apart.

Every atom of me and every atom of you… we’ll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pine trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams.

And when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won’t just be able to take one, they’ll have to take two, one of you and one of me.”

Let these words be a soft, powerful reminder: love is not bound by time, or distance, or even the edges of this life. Real love – like the one we honor today - finds a way in every corner of the universe.

As a reflection of the vows they’ve just shared, Jesse and Isabelle will now exchange rings.

These rings are not just symbols – they are tiny, shining reminders. Worn every day, they speak of love offered freely, of promises kept, and of the quiet, powerful commitment to choose each other again and again.

(To whoever is holding the rings) May I please have the rings?

Jesse, as you place this ring on Isabelle’s finger, you may repeat after me:

“With this ring, I give you my heart. […]

I promise to walk beside you, […]

to love you, […]

and to share my life with you always.” […]

Isabelle, as you place this ring on Jesse’s finger, you may repeat after me:

“With this ring, I give you my heart. […]

I promise to walk beside you, […]

to love you, […]

and to share my life with you always.” […]

Isabelle and Jesse next invite us into a tradition both old and full of light. A ritual that celebrates not just what has been promised, but what is possible.

Please join hands.

This ancient ritual, called handfasting, has roots that stretch back centuries. It honors the weaving together of two lives, two paths, and two hearts.

(Keely wraps cord/ribbon/rope/whatever around Jesse and Isabelle’s hands)

With this cord, you are bound – not in restriction, but in connection.

May this tie remind you always of the promises made today.

May your hands always find each other in times of joy and in times of challenge.

May this binding be a symbol of your mutual support, your partnership, and your deep, abiding affection.

As your hands are tied, so too are your lives — united in purpose, intention, and love.

This cord may be unwrapped, but the connection it symbolizes will endure — threaded through the days to come, a quiet stitch in the fabric of your shared life.

Jesse and Isabelle – in the presence of your loved ones, through the vows you’ve spoken, the rings you’ve exchanged, and the sacred binding of your hands and hearts, you’ve declared your commitment to one another.

It is now my joy and honor to pronounce you married.

You may seal your vows with a kiss. (Keely, get your ass out of the way for the picture!!)

(Turn to audience)

Loved ones, it is my honor to introduce to you, for the first time as husband and wife, Jesse and Isabelle!
